another live screening. This time,
they will be showing director,
Jeremy Purcell’s The Breadwinner.
This Oscar-nominated film is about a
young girl named Parvana, growing
up under Taliban rule in Afghanistan
in 2001. She decides to disguise
herself as a by after her father’s
arrest in order to support her family.
Danger continuously challenges
Paravana’s strive for her family’s
freedom. Tickets are only $15
($11 for seniors and $9 for kids

their weekly Saturday Science

11 April 1 marks the first
day of the Art and History
Contest. Open to all third-, fourth- and
fifth-grade Queens students, the contest
will feature drawing your favorite
Queens landmark or monument.
Students also will have to write a
one-paragraph explanation as to why
he or she has chosen that particular
historic Queens site. The contest
will officially run from April 1 to April
8. The Queens Historical Society
at Kingsland Homestead will be
hosting the contest and is located
at 143-35 37th Ave., Flushing. For

learn about Chinese
folk dances? Now you can at the
Elmhurst location of the Queens
Library. Every Sunday, from 10:30
a.m. to noon, you can learn the
history behind these Chinese folk
dances and perform them yourselves.

filled with learning activities
during the Flushing Meadows
Corona Park: Kids Week Queens
Nature Exploration Hike. You never
know what you may observe on these
nature exploration hikes lead by the
Urban Park Rangers. The hike will be
from 1 to 2:30 p.m. All participants
will meet at the Albert H. Mauro
Playground at Park Drive East and
73rd Ave Terrace. The event is free. For

An interview preparation class is being run by the Long Island City
location of the Queens Library. Practice makes perfect when it comes
to job interviews. In his two-part workshop, participants will learn
about different types of interviews, how to prepare for an interview
and the different interview techniques and common questions that
will be asked. Also, you will be taught how to respond to difficult questions
and how to properly follow-up after your interview. The class is
free and will go from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3. The Long
Island City location is at 37-44 21st St.
Come to Jack Kaiser Stadium at St. John’s University for a special baseball
matchup between the St. John’s Red Storm and the St. Peter’s
University Peacocks. The game will start at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April
3,and tickets for the game are available at the ticket booth outside
Carnesecca Arena and online. The Red Storm recently had a successful
start of the season by winning its first eight games, including a major
upset over No. 6 team in the country, University of North Carolina. The
Johnnies are a strong team entering the 2018 season and are looking
to make it back to Omaha for the College World Series. St. John’s
