100th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Party at the Onderdonk House.
Staff and extended family and friends
How do you put the loss of someone who played a big part of your life into words.
Those of us still with the paper’s transition and those of us who have not worked
with Maureen for many years are feeling her loss.
We were a family dealing with the ups and downs as such, just like any family.
We will always remember her quick smile, wit, sense of humor, patience
and her 15 minute power naps at her desk.
“As a Boss... No matter how bad things were you always made sure you took care of us.. You always showed us how much you appreciated us and
never took advantage of us.
As a friend ....I will miss you first as my friend ... we have been through a lifetime of ups and downs and we always remained friends..I will miss
our long talks about nothing and everything. I have so many fun memories of us and the crazy things we did..It would take pages and pages to say it
all.. Rest in Peace, say hi to Johnny and give him a kiss for me..” Debbie
“Maureen was a great mentor and friend. She was always the first person I saw in the office every morning, sitting at her desk, reading the
daily papers looking for good stories. We’d stop every so often and have long conversations about the state of the city, country, world, and even the
neighborhood. Maureen was never afraid to speak her mind about anything, and had this incredible, sharp wit. The stories she would tell of her days
with Carl Clemons or out in the field covering fires and crime in the 1970s were amazing, like something out of a movie.
Maureen was a source of inspiration and enthusiasm for the editorial team. She always got us to pursue a great story with a great community
angle. “The string bean farmer wants to know about the string bean crop,” she often said. And that struck at the heart of our mission as a community
newspaper. Personally, that’s been my guiding star ever since I began working with the Ridgewood Times, and working for Maureen, Johnny and Bill.
Focus on the community and the facts, and be straightforward.
God bless you, Maureen. Thank you for all of you’ve done and for being who you were. Rest easy.” Robert Pozarycki, Editor-In-Chief
“Maureen was the type of person that I never saw upset or angry. She always had a smile on her face and tried to make the bad, better. Just like her
personality she had a unique style. She was a great boss and I will always miss her. Rest In Peace Maureen, also say hi to Johnny for me.” Marlene
“Some people come and go in our lives. Others stay forever. Maureen will always remain in mine. Rest in Peace.” Liz
