Founded in 1972 by John Lehner,
Zum Stammtisch in Glendale off ers a
variety of authentic German dishes to
choose from, plus a huge list of beer
and wine. Lehner dreamed of opening
a German Bar/Restaurant, and
achieved that dream aft er immigrating
to the US in the 1950s. Running the day
to day operations, Lehner had his children
working every job so they could
learn the ins and outs of the restaurant
business. Aft er years of success as a
restaurant, Lehner’s sons, Werner
and Hans, expanded the business to
include the Stammtisch Pork Store
in 2011. The store off ers a number of
German delicacies, including sausages,
seasonings, jellies and jams, gravies
and sauces, smoked and dried meats,
and more, plus a few favorites from
the Zum Stammtisch menu.

Aft er 68 years in business, Queens
Wines and Liquors offi cially changed
hands in the fall of 2016. Originally
owned by Herman Hochberg, the
store has been a staple in Ridgewood
since it fi rst opened its doors. Off ering
a wide selection of wines and spirits
at reasonable prices, Queens WInes
and Liquors is the neighborhood’s
go-to spot to stock up your liquor cabinet
or to pick up a bottle for a special
occasion. Now under new ownership,
the store has been renovated and now
off ers a sommelier on staff to help
customers with wine pairings as well
as information about wines from different
regions of the world.

Morscher’s Pork Store has called
Ridgewood its home since the
Morscher family opened the store’s
doors in 1955. Aft er immigrating to
the United States aft er World War II,
the family opened the store originally
on Onderdonk and Greene Avenues.
They eventually moved to the Catalpa
Avenue location, where they’re been
ever since. Off ering a huge selection of
German meats and cheeses to choose
from, including their famous steak
burgers, Morscher’s has been a favorite
of the community for their butcher
needs. Using a state-of-the-art smoker,
Morscher’s burns real cherry and apple
wood to slightly change the tastes
of their meats to meet the desires of
the customer while maintaining the
authenticity of the fl avors. They also
pride themselves on their prime-cut
meats and all-natural casings for their
meats.

A baker by trade prior to immigrating
to America, Vito Grimaldi opened
Grimaldi Bakery with his son Joseph
in Ridgewood under the name “Home
of Bread” in 1959. Now, Grimaldi’s
family has carried on the family
tradition of baking fresh, delicious
bread for four generations that has
customers fl ocking from across the
borough to the store. Over the years,
Grimaldi’s has stayed true to its roots
and uses traditional methods to bake
their wide selection of breads. They
also off er a selection of fancy cookies,
muffi ns, pastry, cannolis and handmade
chocolate that can be ordered

also bakes their breads overnight and
