Crooks arrested in Maspeth identity theft plot
RP Rentals received another call from
a woman identifying herself as Rachel
Walker on June 22, this time interested
in renting a Bobcat loader. Court records
show that the woman completed
a rental agreement for the Bobcat using
a diff erent phone number and diff erent
credit card to be charged $1,846.63 for a
one-week rental beginning on June 27.
The owner of the store, recognizing
Rachel Walker as the same woman who
rented the missing forklift , did not charge
the credit card for the Bobcat transaction,
according to the criminal complaint.
One day prior, however, Bobcat of
New York on Maurice Avenue also
received an order for a Bobcat loader
from a Rachel Walker on June 21, court
records show. The woman completed
the rental agreement, provided a New
York driver’s license bearing the name
Rachel Walker, a phone number and
another diff erent credit card that was
declined. The woman then provided yet
another credit card that was charged
$1,971.73 for a one-week rental of the
Bobcat, which is valued at $30,618.12,
according to the criminal complaint.
The Bobcat was delivered to a Bronx
Park South location on June 27, and
several calls to the renter aft er the July
2 return date went unanswered before
the phone was eventually disconnected,
court records show.
That same day, the employee from RP
Rentals who dropped off the forklift in
May went to the Bronx location where
the woman who identifi ed herself as
Rachel Walker requested the Bobcat be
delivered, according to the complaint.
While there, he observed a silver Honda
Accord allegedly driven by Ortega
with Corley in the passenger seat.
The employee witnessed Corley get out
of the car, and Ortega then drove the car
around the block and parked at another location,
court records show. The employee
drove his vehicle around to where Ortega
was parked, called the phone number
from the rental agreement and witnessed
Ortega answer the phone. When the employee
asked her to repeat the credit card
number given with the rental agreement,
Ortega allegedly did not have the card with
her, according to the complaint.
When the employee pulled away and
drove past where Corley was waiting,
he recognized him as the same man
who allegedly signed for the forklift in
May, records show.
Upon further investigation, police discovered
that the Bobcat loader rented from
Bobcat of New York had a GPS system on it
that showed the vehicle was in Hopewell
Junction, New York. When police conducted
a search warrant at the location on July 9,
they found the Bobcat and the forklift from
the May rental, records show.

A man at that location told police that
he purchased the forklift and Bobcat
from Ortega somewhere in the Bronx,
according to the criminal complaint.

purchases, none of which belonged to
them or anyone named Rachel Walker,
