JAMES J. SHANAHAN died on Friday,
January 12, at the age of 75. He was the son
of the late James and Anna R. Shanahan
and dear brother of Dennis T. Shanahan.
He is also survived by many loving
friends. He was a U.S. Army veteran
who served during the Vietnam War. A
Mass of Christian Burial was offered on
Tuesday, January 16, at St. Mary’s Church,
Woodside, followed by interment at Maple
Grove Cemetery, Kew Gardens, under the
direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27
Grand Ave., Maspeth.

GIOACCHINA GUZZETTA of Ridgewood
died on Thursday, January 11, at
the age of 80. A native of Montevago,
Sicily, Italy, she was the devoted mother
of Ciro Guzzetta and Angela Guzzetta.
Services were off ered at Morton Funeral
Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663
Grandview Ave., Ridgewood, followed
by entombment at Chiusa Sclafani Cemetery,
Palermo, Sicily, Italy.

CELIA ALVAREZ of Brooklyn died on
Tuesday, January 9, at the age of 84. A native
of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, she was the
wife of the late Ricardo and devoted mother
of Sonia Rosario and Joseph Alvarez. She
is also survived by two grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren. Services
were offered at Morton Funeral Home/
Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Ave.,
Ridgewood, followed by interment at Linden
Hill Cemetery, Ridgewood.

ANA ACOSTA died on Monday, January
8, at the age of 76. She was the beloved wife
of Juan F. Balandra and loving mother of Raphael,
Mireya, Camilo, Miguel, Juan, Rolando,
Jimmy, Henry and the late Patricia and
Matilde. She was also the cherished grandmother
of 23 grandchildren, great-grandmother
of 23 great-grandchildren and dear
sister of five sisters and three brothers.
Services were offered on Friday, January
12, at Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand
Ave., Maspeth, followed by interment at All
Faiths Cemetery, Middle Village.

DONALD SWIDZINSKI died on Saturday,
January 6, at the age of 55. He was
the beloved father of Devin Swidzinski
and Christian Swidzinski, dear husband
of Tina Marie, cherished son of Eleanora
and Peter Swidzinski and loving brother
of Lynn Russo, Peter Swidzinski, Renee
Ventura and Roman Swidzinski. He is also
survived by many loving nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends. A Mass of Christian
Burial was offered on Thursday, January
11, at Our Lady of Hope Church, Middle
Village, followed by cremation at Fresh
Pond Crematory, Middle Village, under
the direction of Papavero Funeral Home,
72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth.
