to share their talents in a 4-minute
presentation of either poetry, written
word, music, comedy or spoken

“Black String” comes to Flushing
Town Hall to present modern music
with ancient instruments from Korea.
The group creates a unique musical
language based on classical Korean
music as well as jazz and improvisation.
Performers include Yoon-Jeong
Jeo on the geomungo (Korean zither),
Jean Oh on the electric jazz guitar,
Aram Lee on the daegeum (bamboo
fl ute) and Min Wang Hwang on the
janggu (Korean drum). Tickets are
$16 per person, $10 for members

“Creative Conversations” is a monthly
dinner meeting held by the Queens

Help with the Stewardship Team to
protect forested areas in Forest Park!
Volunteers will learn how to identify
and safely remove invasive plants in
order to help restore the forest and
create a healthier ecosystem. They will
also be installing trail blazes along the
birding trail. Come dressed in sturdy
boots or shoes, long pants and clothing
that can get dirty. Please bring your
own water bottle for this event. Volunteers
under 18 must be accompanied
by a chaperone. 10 a.m. to noon, meet
at the corner of Metropolitan Avenue
and Forest Park Drive.
Bugs are all around us! Come to the
Queens Botanical Garden to explore
the World of Bugs. You can examine the

parts of a squirmy earthworm, create
your own insect, and hunt for bug
homes in the garden’s Woodland. Activities
are geared for 4- to 10-year-olds,
but all are welcome to attend. Activities
will include indoor nature-themed
hands on activities, followed by a
short nature walk around the Garden.

e-waste recycling event, where you can
dispose of it for free. The collection is

It’s that time of year again — time to fi le your income tax returns. You can
have your returns fi led for free at the Queens Library. Volunteers from the
New York State Tax Department will be at the Flushing and Woodside Libraries
assisting residents whose income is less than $66,000 a year in fi ling
their taxes online. Volunteers will be available that speak English, Chinese,
Korean and Japanese at the Flushing branch, and in English and Spanish
at the Woodside location. 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at both the Flushing
