An Introduction to Sacred Heart Catholic Academy
Sacred Heart Catholic Academy
is an Early Childhood through
Grade 8 school in Glendale, following
all New York State and Diocese of
Brooklyn curriculum and educational
standards for educating their students.
The children receive comprehensive
instruction in religion, reading, language
arts, writing, math, science, social
studies, penmanship, technology, spanish,
art, music, library skills, physical
education, health, and public speaking.
Sacred Heart students also have
access to a fully-equipped science lab;
an updated computer lab; a computerized
library; a resource room; and an
outdoor play area geared toward early
childhood students.
In addition, there are many extra
curricular activities available to Sacred
Heart students and families both
during the school day and aft er school:
Sacred Heart Catholic Academy
began as Sacred Heart School on Jan.
29, 1937. The school offi cially became
an academy in 2016.
Sacred Heart’s mission is to motivate,
educate, and empower academically,
spiritually and socially the students of
Sacred Heart Catholic Academy for the
challenges of tomorrow with the support
of the Sacred Heart community.
Building strong values at St. Sebastian’s Academy
The road to academic success
begins at St. Sebastian Catholic
Academy, which serves the parishes
of B.V.M. Help of Christians (St.
Mary’s), Queen of Angels, St. Teresa
and St. Sebastian.
Located in the culturally diverse
neighborhood of Woodside, St.
Sebastian Catholic Academy off ers
a values-centered curriculum and
an academically challenging environment
where students develop
spiritually, intellectually, physically
and socially.
Students experience a variety of
learning experiences including computer
technology, art, music, foreign
language, physical education/health
and library. The school also boasts a
newly renovated technology center,
as well as Wi-Fi and SmartBoards
in all classrooms. Middle school
students are issued iPads at the beginning
of the academic year.
To further encourage its
students to excel, St. Sebastian
Catholic Academy has a partnership
with Monsignor McClancy
High School for advanced classes
in Algebra and Earth Science for
eligible 8th Grade students. Title
1 services in reading, math and
guidance are available as well as
SETSS, Speech and OT.
Maspeth Town Hall also sponsors
a free, on-site aft er school program
for students in grades 6, 7 and 8 daily
from 3-6 p.m. each school day.
The academy also offers a free
“Pre-K for All” program available to
all students born in 2014. Children
have access to an indoor gym and a
newly renovated outdoor on-site playspace
with state-of-the-art equipment.
As part of the program, students also
receive a nourishing breakfast and a
hot lunch.
For all students in nursery
through grade 5, a fee-based Extended
Day Program is off ered from 3-6
p.m. daily.
As a testament to St. Sebastian’s
academic excellence, the 2016 graduating
class collectively earned more
than $850,000 in Catholic High School
scholarships, and students were
accepted to the fi nest public high
schools in New York City.
