Th e sign was constructed in 1940 and erected on the roof of the Pepsi-Cola bottling facility in Long Island City. It was restored in 1993 due to signifi cant deterioration. Corona girl saves mom’s life A courageous young girl from Corona helped save her mother’s life on the night of April 7. Isabella Rodriguez, who just turned 6, sprang into action by calling a 911 operator when her mother, Maria Giraldo, experienced a seizure and landed on her back, bumping her head. Giraldo awoke at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Hospital in Forest Hills and discovered Isabella’s heroic eff ort aft er an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) told her that “your daughter did a good job.” “I believe she saved my life,” Giraldo told Th e Courier. Middle Village cemetery suff ers several small brush fi res All Faiths Cemetery in Middle Village did not suff er any signifi cant damage in spite of several small brush fi res that broke out on the aft ernoon of April 18 at the site. Th e FDNY received a call about the fi re at 2:16 p.m. and 12 units and 65 fi refi ghters were on hand to combat the blaze at 67-29 Metropolitan Ave. Th e fi re was brought under control just before 5 p.m. Weather conditions were ripe for brush fi res that day, with a combination of warm temperatures, low humidity and wind gusts in the area.
