STORY: EXCLUSIVE: Chef from this restaurant in Bayside competes on “Chopped” television competition SUMMARY: Chef Maria Petridis of Maria’s Mediterranean Seafood & Grill in Bayside will fl ex her culinary muscles on a soon-to-be-aired episode of Food Network’s show “Chopped. ” Ten wishes for 2017 When the ball fi nally drops at Times Square at midnight Saturday, millions will celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of the next. We have a wish list of some of the things we’d like to see in the new year. Here they are: 1.) We hope our new president will fulfi ll his motto to “Make America great again” while also remembering the values of his hometown of Queens in all that he does. 2.) We hope the voters show up at the polls in next year’s city elections and all other elections with the same volume and spirit as this year’s presidential election. 3.) Keep the fares the same! Th e MTA should come to its senses and fi gure out a way to balance its own budget without nickel-and-diming commuters. 4.) Let’s get rid of the toll booths at the Cross Bay Bridge -- as well as the toll to cross it. Th e state is installing cashless toll systems on the MTA bridges and tunnels. It’s the perfect time to get this done. 5.) Take action to signifi cantly reduce noise from airplanes and helicopters fl ying overhead. 6.) Solve the homeless crisis across the city, with Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi’s plan to expand rental subsidies being a part of the eff ort to get people off the streets and into decent housing. 7.) For the good of every New Yorker, let Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo resolve their diff erences and work together to improve the entire city. 8.) Let’s keep development and business growth in Queens while also providing more aff ordable places for everyone in the borough to live. 9.) Th e city should continue to fi nd places to build new schools so every child gets a well-rounded education. 10.) May you all fi nd happiness, health and prosperity in the new year ahead. Celebrate with your loved ones and enjoy every thrill life has to off er!
