sports 86 THE QUEENS COURIER • DECEMBER 8, 2016 FOR BREAKING N EWS VISIT www.qns.com By ANTHONY GIUDICE agiudice@ ridgewoodtimes.com @A_GiudiceReport The Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) 2006 New York City Football Club (NYCFC) team played several games over the weekend, on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Hofstra Bubble Indoor soccer league, and on Sunday, Dec. 4 — their last game of the outdoor season — at New York Soccer Club. On Saturday, the 2006 team won both of their games; the first group defeated East Coast Football Club, while the second group won against Albertson Academy. On Sunday the kids won one game but lost the second game against New York Soccer Club. As a club BWG was honored to watch two of BWG products — Timothy Weah (now at PSG) and Carlo Ritaccio currently with BWG 18 academy — play for the US 17 National Team against Brazil. I.S. 77 soccer stars awarded by Greater Ridgewood Youth Council Maspeth High School Argonauts breeze past Energy Tech in opening game of the season By ANTHONY GIUDICE @A_GiudiceReport Photos by Joseph Swift @jswiftsports The Maspeth High School (MHS) Argonauts boys varsity basketball team kicked off their 2016-2017 season with a dominant 81-34 win over Energy Tech High School on Thursday, Dec. 1. The game was never in question as MHS led 14-3 after the first quarter, adding 24 more points in the second, and 32 in the third, before slowing down with only 11 points in the final quarter. Senior Nathaniel Nickel led all scorers with 15 points, and three other Argonauts finished in double-digits. Photo courtesy I.S. 77 The Greater Ridgewood Youth Council’s SONYC/ELT Program held an award ceremony for I.S. 77 students that participated in the Soccer for Success Program. Students were presented with a certificate for participation and medals on Saturday, Dec. 3, for demonstrating good sportsmanship and working towards their healthy living goals. The GRYC would like to give a special thanks to all parents and students who attended.
