Salcfas, a 30-year hotel industry veteran, was recently appointed general manager of the New York LaGuardia Airport Marriott hotel, a 438-room full service hotel in East Elmhurst. The hotel is the leading premier full-service Marriott hotel in the borough of Queens with over 15,000 square feet of meeting and catering space. It is conveniently located just outside of LaGuardia International Airport. As general manager, Salcfas is responsible for overall daily operations and for the hotel’s sales strategy. Prior to his position at the LaGuardia Marriott, he served for two years as hotel manager for The Ritz – Carlton New York, Central Park, an exclusive luxury Five Star/Five Diamond property on Central Park South. From 2009-2011, Salcfas was director of operations at the New York Marriott East Side on Lexington Avenue at East 49th Street. From September 2004 through October 2009, he served in various mana g e m e n t p o s i t i o n s at Marriott hotels on Long Island and in New Jersey. He joined the sales team at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge in 1999 and was promoted to positions of director of hotel sales and then to director of sales and marketing. Salcfas began his career with Marriott International as a catering service manager at Marriott’s (former) Seaview Resort in Absecon, New Jersey. His hospitality career began in the culinary arts, as a graduate of Johnson and Wales University in 1988, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Food Service Management and an Associate degree in Occupational Science, Culinary Arts. He is an active member of the hospitality community and serves on Marriott’s New York City Business Council. He has participated in Ritz – Carlton’s Community Footprints program. He also served as an officer for the Boy Scouts of America/Brooklyn Chapter and was a board member of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, as well as having served on various chamber of commerce boards in the areas in which he worked. He has received many sales and leadership awards throughout his career at Marriott International. G r e g o r y Murphy Managing Director Skanska Greg Murphy has had 37 years of experience in the construction management industry and has been involved with building the $1 billion Folley Square Court House, the $1 billion dollar Battery Park City and Queens West. He is the Managing Director of S/M/WBE for Skanska USA and is well known in Queens for his work on the Air Train. Since then, he has been involved with the CitiField, Yankee Stadium, and the MetLife Stadium projects. He is presently working in the new CUNY Science Center in Harlem. Murphy graduated from Penn State University and played professional football for both the Jets and the Giants. He is an active member of One Hundred Black Men and the NFLPA. He spends much of his leisure time playing golf and raising money for both the March of Dimes and the United Way. Murphy lives with his wife Brenda in Brooklyn Heights. Musa Ali Shama Principal Francis Lewis High School Musa Ali Shama is the distinguished school building leader of a high school with an enrollment of 4,124 students and 319 staff members. He is an innovative and passionate educator with the proven ability to develop programs and implement policies to foster a safe and creative learning environment that facilitates achievement toward NYS graduation requirements, promotes a school culture that drives continuous improvement for teachers and students, implements practices that stimulates open communication among colleagues, students, and the community and mentors students to help them grow on an academic and personal level. He is a visionary leader with a philosophy of 21st Century pedagogy. As principal of Francis Lewis, Shama has led the school to be the highest performing non-specialized high school of over 1600 students for two years consecutively. It is in the top 10% and top 20% of all NYCDOE schools as seen on DOE school report cards in the last two years respectively. He helped increased graduation rate by 8% in four years and saw a 9% increase in students earning Advanced Regents Diplomas and Regents Diplomas. s
