WHITESTONE RESIDENTS GREET JUDITH HARRISON, THE NEW COMMANDING OFFICER AT 109TH PRECINCT BY BRIANNA ELLIS bellis@qns.com/@briinformed Deputy Inspector Judith Harrison, the new 109th Precinct commander, received a warm welcome from Whitestone residents during the We Love Whitestone civic association meeting on May 18. “I’m very happy to be here. I’m very happy to see you,” Harrison, who previously commanded the 112th Precinct, told residents at the Immanuel Lutheran School. “I’m a lifelong resident of Queens, so Queens is near and dear to me … so your concerns are my concerns. Your issues are my issues. Your problems are my problems. I work for you. Whatever you need from me I’m here for you and I’m looking forward to the opportunity.” Harrison explained that she intends to continue the Neighborhood Coordination Offi cers NCO program that was implemented by Deputy Inspector Thomas Conforti, the precinct’s former commander, in April. The initiative aims to combat delayed response times by adding consistent police presence in the community. Harrison introduced a group of police offi cers from the 109th Precinct who will oversee the Whitestone area, as well as the surrounding neighborhoods of downtown Flushing, east Flushing, Queensboro Hill, College Point, Malba, Whitestone, Beechhurst and Bay Terrace. “I share the same issues that you share … I pride myself in what I do. I’ve been blessed to be brought to NCO’s program … if you have any issues that need to be addressed, instead of calling 311 or the precinct, the police department was gracious enough to give us cellphones,” P.O. Anthony Cutaia said. Harrison expressed her appreciation for Conforti’s efforts and looks forward to continuing his work. At the same time, she told The Queens Courier that she’ll miss her former colleagues at the 112th Precinct based in Forest Hills. “Anytime you leave somewhere, you know I was at the 112th Precinct for almost two years, so anytime you leave you’re gonna miss it,” she said. “I’m gonna miss the people, I’m gonna miss the community. The community was great … awesome place to work, great place to learn, but you know what, this is a command now with increased responsibility, with increased area to cover and I’m looking forward to the challenge. “It’s bittersweet leaving but you know you have to leave someplace because you just can’t stay stagnant,” she continued. “So it’s time to move on and meet new people and work for new people and serve new people.” Your Homeownership Partner 1-800-382-HOME(4663) www.sonyma.org
