There are circus camps, fashion camps, scuba diving camps, space camps and video game design camps. Here is a brief look at some of them. Broadreach in Raleigh, NC, is designed for teenagers ages 13 to 19. Campers spend 14 to 36 days in areas like Australia, Egypt and the Caribbean studying marine biology and participating in activities like horseback riding, surfing and whitewater rafting. Campers may also receive training and certification in sailing or scuba diving. On select trips, high school and college credits can be earned. Circus Camp at Camp Winnarainbow in Mendocino, CA, is designed for children ages seven to 14 (there is also a session for adults). Circus and performing arts veterans teach campers skills in the areas of stilt walking, balance, timing and trapeze work. ID Tech Camps at university campuses around the country and even in Canada are designed for children ages seven to 17. Campers receive training in 3D video game design, Web design, digital video editing, robotics, special effects editing and flash animation. Campers may also stack programs and create specialized tracks to explore a variety of tech-related topics. Credit for continuing education units can be earned. Pail Overnight Adventuress in Running Springs, CA, is designed for children ages seven to 16 and offers 12 specialty camps. At the latter, campers dig for fossils, make fossil molds, build dinosaurs and erupting volcanoes, play dino games, learn Jurassic talk, create dinoart and go on field trips. Smirkus Camp at Sterling College in Craftsbury Common, VT, is designed for children ages six to 18. Experienced circus performers train campers five hours a day in areas like clowning, juggling, unicycling, stilt walking, tight wire and trapeze work, and acrobatics. Sessions run from two days to two weeks. At the end of camp, performances for family and friends are held in one of the European big-top tents. Spy Camp at Camp Lohikan in Lake Como, PA, is designed for children in second grade through high school. Campers receive training in marital arts, code breaking, survival, surveillance techniques and undercover maneuvers. They also learn how to operate jet skis and four wheelers. Sessions are broken down in increments of six weeks, 13 days or one week. For information regarding costs, registration and other requirements for attending these camps, check out their Web sites.
