Diners are treated like royalty and offered hot towel service, in addition to authentic Chinese and Cantonese dishes. As you enter the restaurant, prepare yourself for a cultural joy ride. The vintage Tiki bar and décor evokes a sense of Polynesian nostalgia that all diners can adore. Flamboyant Tiki statues will warmly welcome you, alongside the friendly and attentive King Yum dining staff. This family-owned establishment has operated for more than 60 years, with second-generation owner and Chef Robin Eng currently in charge. Eng says that his customers are more like family and strives to attract a younger crowd. Although he constantly creates new and innovative meals, Eng takes pride in serving traditional Chinese food made with high-quality ingredients. A common appetizer is the wonton soup ($2.75), filled with pork, plump dumplings and green onions. Fried noodles are served on the side, adding a delightful crunch to the broth. The barbeque spare ribs (small $8.95; large $17.75) is another starter that is very tender and glazed. Although General Tso’s chicken is a popular Chinese dish, King Yum puts a unique spin on things. The General Tso’s shrimp ($18.95) creatively incorporates the classic, sweet Tso’s flavor and tastes even better with a soft bed of fried rice on the side. Enjoy this meal with a pina colada ($9.95), the homemade favorite that blends refreshing rums, coconut milk, pineapple juice and more. The exotic drink Zombies ($9.95) mixes light and dark rums with fruit juices. What’s traditional Chinese food without chicken wings? Bite into a set of crispy mild or spicy wings (small $5.50; large $10.95), with duck sauce or hot mustard sauce for an extra zest. Scoop up a plate of beef lo mein ($12.50), as the delicate noodles and beef go down smoothly. On the healthier side, King Yum caters to their diners’ dietary restrictions by providing an extensive gluten free menu. The lighter loads still include satisfying meals like pepper steak and onions or tomatoes ($15.50), chicken and broccoli ($15.45) and butterfly shrimps ($21.50). Get a kick start to King Yum, a great place to stuff your face and belt your heart out on Karaoke Fridays!
