Now it’s ready to go for a world title. The team will represent the United States in the International Cheer Union World’s Pom Division scheduled In Motion Dance Center of NY In Motion Dance Center of NY (IMNY) has been voted #1 in the Best of the Boro contest for “Best Children’s Dance Studio” and “Best Adult Dance Studio” in Queens since opening it’s doors in 2011, as well as #1 for “Best Gymnastics” and “Best Camp”. Dance teams from more than 20 nations across the globe will also compete. For 20 years, the Hofstra University Dance Team has built a reputation for being one of the most prestigious college dance troupes in the country, attending the Universal Dance Association College National Championship and being ranked in the top five nationwide for 17 of the last 20 years. During the Universal Dance Association College Nationals back in January, Hofstra placed second in jazz and first in pom in suring its fourth National Champion program since 2006. Team members work as hard as any other studentathlete on campus, accroding to Hofstra Dance Team Head Coach Kelly Olsen-Leon. Each member logs between 15 and 20 hours a week of practice, weight training, participation in university events and community service. Even so, the dance team is seeking financial support from the public in its quest for a world championship. The team is collecting donations until the end of March; any amount is appreciated. Anyone who donates at least $50 will have their name added to the team’s “Worlds Sponsor” t-shirt, which team members will wear on campus and at various competitions and events.
