Adams works with local elected offi cials, city agency representatives, law enforcement as well as clergy. As head of the board, Adams presides over all public hearings, town hall meetings and other activities pertaining to Community Board 12. PERSONAL BACKGROUND: Born in East Elmhurst and raised in Hollis, Queens, Adams is a proud graduate of Spelman College. There she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in Childhood Education. Adams is on the board of trustees of the Queens Public Library and is also a wife, mother and grandmother who raised four children in Jamaica, Queens. PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND: Before her work as chairwoman, Adams worked as a corporate trainer for Goldman Sachs. She is also a child development associate instructor and professional speaker. MOTIVATION: With the well-being of her children and grandchildren in mind, Adams has a deep concern for future generations. Because of this, her top priority is restoring and preserving the community so that it may thrive both socially and economically for years to come. FAVORITE MEMORY: Her favorite memory is the realizing that her work as chair was so appreciated by the community as she was elected for a second term in December 2014. BIGGEST CHALLENGE: Adams’ biggest challenge has been entering her position as chair at a time when the board itself was not running at its full potential. However, with the help of the district manager and other members of the board, Adams was able to increase organization and morale within the board. BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Since her arrival in 2013, Adams is grateful to have been able to bring the board to a higher level of effi ciency and bring a stronger sense of inclusion within community membership.
