Police said the 31-year-old man was hit with the debris at 131-07 40th Rd. at around 7:42 a.m.According to the Fire Department, the worker suffered bodily trauma but was conscious and alert. Paramedics took him to New York/Presbyterian Hospital for treatment of his injuries; he was listed in stable condition. The man was likely working on the site of two condominiums towers being built on the site as part of a multi-phase luxury development located above The Shops at SkyView Center, a 700,000-square-foot retail mall. Three residential towers will ultimately be built and the first has already been completed, with all of its units entirely sold out. JACKSON HEIGHTS FACES YET ANOTHER VIOLENT ANTI-GAY ATACK A man was robbed and attacked on the morning of Feb. 17 by three suspects who hurled anti-gay slurs at him on a Jackson Heights street, police said. The 31-year-old victim, who was reportedly leaving a restaurant at Roosevelt Avenue and 81st Street at 2 a.m., was approached by three men who robbed him and yelled anti-gay remarks at him in Spanish, 111th Precinct Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck Man wanted for stealing wallet in Little Neck pet store Police are looking for a man wanted for stealing a wallet left unattended in a Little Neck pet store. The suspect was able to remove the wallet on Feb. 8 after the victim, a 29-year-old female, left it in the back office of a Petco at 254-51 Horace Harding Expressway. He then left the location.The suspect is described as a black male approximately 6 feet tall and 220 pounds with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a light-colored jacket, green and black striped shirt and a ski hat. The three men reportedly told the victim, “You’re a worthless piece of trash because you’re gay,” police said. The suspects punched and kicked the victim to the ground before stealing his wallet, which contained $60, a credit card and other forms of identification. He suffered various kicks to the head, face, ribs and back and was left unconscious. The victim later woke up and walked to Elmhurst Hospital, police said. He was treated for a concussion and released. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. Though police cannot officially confirm, an NYPD spokesperson said the incident may be investigated as a hate crime. Jackson Heights was the scene of another anti-gay attack in November. A man was beaten and sexually assaulted by three men around the same location. It is not immediately clear if the attacks are related. Also in November, a transgender woman was attacked outside of her home at 93rd Street between Elmhurst and Roosevelt Avenues. The woman was slammed to the ground and taken to the hospital in critical condition. “My first thought was we’ve come so far but then again, something like this reminds you of how much more work you have to do,” said Councilman Daniel Dromm, who sits on the LGBT Caucus. “It’s a shame that in 2016 were still fighting against this type of hatred. It doesn’t make sense at all that people continue to do these terrible things.” Man wanted for series of burglaries in Forest Hills and Rego Park Police want to talk to a man shown in security camera footage released on Feb. 23 in connection with a burglary pattern across Forest Hills dating back to last December. Authorities said the crook allegedly broke into a first-floor apartment at a building in the vicinity of 63rd Drive and Fitchett Street at 7 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2015. He allegedly removed numerous electronic devices as well as jewelry and $60 in cash, then fled out through the front door.Besides that incident, police believe the crook is also responsible for four other break-ins that occurred between Dec. 31 and Feb. 8 around Forest Hills and Rego Park, within the 112th Precinct’s confines. Each of the incidents were similar in nature, law enforcement agents noted; in each case, the perpetrator entered the apartments through a fire escape and removed electronic devices and cash or jewelry. The incidents are as follows: • Dec. 31, 2015, burglary that occurred during mid-afternoon hours on Saunders Street; • Jan. 16 break-in during late evening hours on Saunders Street; • Jan. 28 burglary during late afternoon hours on Queens Boulevard; and • Feb. 8 break-in during daytime hours on Saunders Street. The NYPD described the suspect as a black male believed to be 45 years old, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 170 pounds who was last observed wearing a black hat, gray coat and tan pants.
