TCC DVD MOVIE/CONCERT SERIES PROGRAMS ARE IN THE VIP ROOM Thursday December 10th, 8 PM “A Taste of Chanukah” A Taste of Chanukah is a joyous celebration of Chanukah that the whole family can enjoy. Hosted by Theodore Bikel and led by Artistic Director Hankus Netsky, the program serves up a festive hour long concert. The program features over 150 musicians from the different ensembles recorded live at the New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall in Boston. Listeners will delight in humorist Chasia Segal, who demonstrates how to cook perfect potato latkes. Wednesday, December 23rd – 8 PM “Glad Christmas Tidings with the Morman Tabernacle Choir Orchestra at Temple Square featuring David Archuleta and special guest Michael York” Each year, the Christmas concert presented by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square is seen by more than 85,000 people live and by millions more via television broadcast. It is a full-scale production featuring world-class musicians, soloists, dancers, narrators, and music that leaves viewers in awe year after year. This year, the Choir was joined by pop music sensation and platinum recording artist David Archuleta. David s clear and powerful vocals paired with the Choir s classic Christmas sound makes this a must-have for any Christmas collection. Wednesday, December 30th – 7:30 PM “New Year’s Eve Concert with Gustavo Dudamel and the Berlin Philharmonic” The 2010 New Year’s Eve concert from Berlin frames two of the most prominent stars: “One in a million” mezzo (The Independent) Elîna Garanca, and the world’s most sizzling conductor, Gustavo Dudamel. Recorded live, this gala performance sparkles with a selection of arias and orchestral works that include excerpts from one of Garanèa’s most celebrated roles, Bizet’s Carmen, and a more reflective, lyric role, Marguerite in Berlioz’s Damnation of Faust. The Berlin Philharmonic makes a stirring contribution to the program with the overture to Berlioz’s thrilling Roman Carnival and excerpts from Manuel de Falla’s ballet, The Three-Cornered Hat. Choreographer Yuri Grigorovich immerses himself in Hoffmann’s fantastic imagery, and takes his cues from the traditional staging of Marius Petipa’ scenario: Battle of the Mice, Snowflake flurries, and character dances performed by the dolls who have come to life. The greatest talent of the Bolshoi Ballet appears in this production - Nina Kaptsova (Marie) and Artem Ovcharenko (the Nutcracker Prince) and Denis Savin (Drosselmeyer).
