MONDAY, DECEMBER 15TH, 2014 “Frank Sinatra: Concert for the Americas” This first-ever U.S. release of this spectacular 1982 concert proves that even at age 66, Francis Albert Sinatra was still the undisputed Chairman of the Board. Recorded at the Altos De Chavón Amphitheatre in La Romana, the Dominican Republic, this 90-minute epic performance features the legendary Buddy Rich on drums and a special guest appearance by guitarist Tony Mottola on a memorable rendition of Send In The Clowns. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18TH, 2014 “Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet with the Bolshoi Ballet” This masterpiece of classical dance was filmed at the Bolshoi Theatre. Choreographer Yuri Grigorovich immerses himself in Hoffmann’s fantastic imagery, and takes his cues from the traditional staging of Marius Petipa’ scenario: Battle of the Mice, Snowflake flurries, and character dances performed by the dolls who have come to life. The greatest talent of the Bolshoi Ballet appears in this production - Nina Kaptsova (Marie) and Artem Ovcharenko (the Nutcracker Prince) and Denis Savin (Drosselmeyer). MONDAY, DECEMBER 22ND, 2014 “Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra” In our final holiday season performance, Christian Thielemann and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra play the magnificent Beethoven Symphony No. 9. In this grand work, Beethoven summed up everything he learned in a lifetime of innovation in performance and composition, concluding with the memorable choral section based on a setting of a Schiller poem. Most famous today is the segment called “Ode to Joy”.This is a stirring performance from Vienna by one of the world’s best orchestras.
