44 North Shore Towers Courier n October 2014 2ND ANNUAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL AT NORTH SHORE TOWERS BY MARILYN CHRIS The first evening of the 2nd Annual Short Film Festival at North Shore Towers – SFF@NST -took place this year on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in both the Towers Cinema and Towers on the Green. It was very well attended. There was a lively discussion with filmmakers Jonah Bleicher (“Siren”) and Sara Zandieh (“Reza Hassani Goes to the Mall”) that took place after the screenings and people had the opportunity to meet the filmmakers and express their opinion and ask questions. It was enjoyed by all who participated. Fortunately, for those who missed out, there will be a make-up screening on November 10th in the VIP Room. Anyone who missed out on the first evening is welcome to attend. Board member Felice Hannah said “I enjoyed the Short Film Festival and hope that we will continue this event annually. The selection of films by the Committee evokes emotions from joy to tears. Thanks Fred, Marilyn, Lee, Marilyn and Bob Eagle who gave their time to bring this to us.” Rita Pasternack said “Wow! What a special night for the 2nd Annual Film Festival. Excellent selections. Looking forward to the next one , with different films, on October 9th.” Louise Carmiciano said “Thank you so much for a wonderful evening. We cried and left laughing. The crowd was animated and seemed to have a really good time. The filmmaker Jonah Bleicher said “ It was a real treat to visit North Shore Towers and an honor to share my film with such a receptive and engaged audience. Your organization and hospitality were impeccable. I will do my best to attend the second screening as well. My warmest regards to all of the lovely folks there who received us so warmly. All the best.” The filmmaker Sara Zandieh said “The Short Film Festival at North Shore Towers was a wonderful time. I screened my short film “Reza Hassani Goes to the Mall”. The audience was generous and energetic. It was thrilling to hear them laugh and react throughout the film. I felt they really connected with the story and appreciated the comedic moments. I would love to screen there again.” The recipient of the 2nd Annual Short Film Festival Audience Appreciation Award went to _Giorgia Farina for “Achille” It was a close call, all the films were wonderful, but _Achille” won by a slim margin. Giorgia Farina was unable to attend but we will get the award to her along with our gratitude for allowing us to screen it. The second evening of the Short Film Festival will be held on Thursday, October 9th – same time 7:30 – same places: Towers Cinema and Tower on the Green. The films for that evening are: “Hirosaki Players” by Jeff Sousa; “Recorder Exam”by Bora Kim, “Three Light Bulbs” by Min Ding and “Saab Story” by Max Joseph. Some of the filmmakers have promised to attend that evening as well, schedule permitting. Our own Tony Rappaport has informed the Committee that there are a number of filmmakers here at the Towers. We cordially invite them to submit their short films to us for consideration for the 3rd Annual Short Film Festival (tentatively scheduled for September 29, 2015 and a date in October to be announced.). We would love to be able to include our fellow residents films in the Festival. The 2nd Annual Short Film Festival was a really grand occasion. We, the Committee: Lee Wallace, Fred Chernow (member of the Board), Marilyn Eagle, Dr. Robert Eagle and myself are looking forward to presenting another Short Film Festival again next year. Hopefully it will take place in our own newly refurbished Towers Cinema. See you at the Short Film Festival @ NST on October 9,2014.
