This year they have selected the Tower Country Club for the Women’s Championship match. This competition consists of two-woman teams from clubs all over the area. If you would like to see some good golf, spectators are welcome however, no carts, only walking. The tournament begins at 10 am. Please note that due to this event, the VIP Room food service will not be opened for business that day. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8TH, 2014 Queens College presents Lecturer, Jeffrey Engel “Schubert’s Last Year: A Cornucopia of Musical Masterpieces” 8 pm – VIP Room Mr. Engel has lectured on a wide variety of topics ranging from the history of film scores to classical music’s great, not so great and eccentric composers. This lecture will tell of the last year of Franz Schubert’s life. Marked by professional disappointment and very poor health, Schubert wrote music seamlessly and at an incredible clip, producing one masterpiece after another until just weeks before his death. Jeffrey Engel will relate in detail the tragic life of Schubert and showcase some of the extraordinary music he created in 1828. MONDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2014 Meet the Author…Marni Graff “Discover British Mysteries” 8 pm – VIP Room Award-winning author Marni Graff will discuss her three mysteries, the challenges of setting a novel in a foreign country, and describe the process that goes into writing each mystery. Several scenes from the books will be read by actress and NST resident Marilyn Chris (Wallace) and Marni to give the audience the flavor of the series. A question and answer period will entertain audience queries and Graff will give attendees a handout listing of other British crime authors to pursue.
