HERE’S WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING ABOUT
“MODERN GIRLS” BY JENNIFER S. BROWN…
“…‘Stolen Beauty’ so incredibly delicious
to read… uniquely delivers intelligent plot,
literary substance and emotional impact.”
—The Jewish Book Council
“‘Stolen Beauty’ is a work of art itself…
one that is simultaneously alarming and
comforting.”
—Wall Street Journal
“Fans of romantic suspense with an art
historical bent will appreciate the vigor of
Albanese’s reimagining of the family saga
behind the masterpiece long regarded as
Vienna’s Mona Lisa.”
—Kirkus Reviews
“Stolen Beauty,” a historical
novel by Laurie Lico
Albanese, will be discussed
at the next Migdal/
Hadassah Book Club
meeting on Wednesday,
September 26, at 2 p.m.
in the Coleridge Lounge.
Arlene Augenbraun and
Bern Rosenthal will lead a
discussion of the intriguing story
behind Gustave Klimt’s famous portrait of
Adele Bloch-Bauer, known as “The Lady
in Gold.”
The narrative unfolds in two alternating
stories: Adele Bloch-Bauer’s glamorous
life in Vienna in the early twentieth century
and her passionate affair with Klimt; and
her niece Marion Altman’s story of the
German takeover of Vienna in 1938, the
Nazi appropriation of “The Lady in Gold,”
and Altman’s long and persistent attempt
from America to reclaim the painting for
her family.
