26 North Shore Towers Courier n September 2013 GOLF TIPS BY BOB GUIDO LIMIT FORWARD PRESS ON CHIPS Make sure your hands return at impact to the address position. There’s nothing wrong with a little forward press in putting. Even a slight one in your chipping swing is perfectly okay. But make sure you DON’T START WITH YOUR HANDS TOO FAR AHEAD OF THE BALL. When your shaft is too far ahead at address, you deloft the club and make it difficult to control accuracy and distance on your chips. Ideally, the club shaft should have a slight lean, not more than 10 degrees. That position promotes ballfirst contact. Your weight should be more on your forward foot to encourage a descending blow. There is a small wrist break on the back swing with the right wrist cocking slightly. This will help elevate the club head for a downward stroke. MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Migdal Hadassah Programs The Yiddish Vinkl, led by Ruth Sheradsky, meets Tuesday mornings in the Coleridge Lounge, Arcade, Building 3, from 10 to 11 a.m. This group is a renamed continuation of Carolyn Dinofsky’s Yiddish class. On Wednesday, October 2 at 11 a.m., Migdal will kick off the fall season with a Luncheon Card Party at Towers on the Green.
