NST WOMEN’S CLUB CELEBRATES ANOTHER BIRTHDAY IN RHYME
Blow out the candles - give out a cheer,
Women;'s Club birthday - celebrate another year.
Our numbers are growing - we play a strong role,
Plan many meetings with speakers like James Coll.
Programs galore - no time for conjectures,
Carmionio and Alvarez - who gave us great lectures.
Then the Jewish Mafia and the mother confessors,
With Ehrlich and Sackowitz - the St. John's professors.
Talking about workshops as I continue my rhyme,
We added a new one called "Play Time",
Soul food for the mind and heart as well,
Barbara Goldstein's Series gives us a kvell.

A well-attended audience
was present for the movie
review of "Red Joan"
with Dame Judi Dench. Based
on a true story and a novel,
the discussion generated many
questions from the audience
concerning the morality of Red
Joan's choice to spy for the Russians
during the nuclear arms
race following World War II.
The discussion was so animated
that that it continued in the
coffee shop after the program
was over.
A makeshift "Roundtable" was
assembled and Howard Simon,
co-manager of the theater, was
present to add his perspective on
the film and movies in general.
The "Roundtable" may become a
regular part of the movie review
program since it seems to be very
successful.
This month's film for review
is slated to be "Poms" with
Diane Keaton. Dealing
with ageism and following your
dreams no matter how old you
are, the film sets the scene for
a myriad of family and social
issues dealing with seniors.
Although not well received by
outside critics, the film does
succeed on many levels not cited
by reviewers who obviously
could not identify with the age
and circumstances of the movie's
premise.
A true story of a senior cheerleading
squad who defied many
obstacles to achieve their goal, the
discussion promises to be lively
and relevant. All movie notices
are on the easel at the top of the
stairs leading down to the theater.
Look for the poster with the yellow
rose - that's us!
