NORTH SHORE TOWERS CARES FOR THE NEEDY
BY BEVERLY BORD
The North Shore Towers
outreach program, "North
Shore Towers Cares for
the Needy," in conjunction with
Commonpoint and coordinated by
We Care New York, Inc., has given
residents opportunities to donate
items to help those in need.
Co-chairpersons Arlene
Greenwood and I happily
announce that the brown hamper
looking bins in each building’s
mailbox room have each
been filled and items have been
collected three times since the
inception of the program during
the months of April and May. The
program will continue throughout
the year and residents will be
notified of the monthly changes
in items to be donated. A special
thank-you goes out to the porters,
concierges and doormen who
have been replacing plastic bags
in the bins and allowing for the
collectors of the items to safely
enter the buildings.
The items collected in April and
May were soap, new towels, and
bath and shower products. In June,
members of the Samuel Field Y knit
dolls to donate to children; the
Community Outreach Committee
gives special thanks to Judi Ross,
leader of the North Shore Towers
Knitting Club, and to her talented
members, who generously donated
great amounts of yarn to this
initiative.
Please note that no foods are
being collected in our program
since essential daily food for the
We Care NY program is provided
by and distributed through the
Commonpoint food pantry.
The following items will be collected
at NST in July and August:
JULY
Baby clothes, baby food, wipes,
diapers and sunscreen to benefit
parenting women’s shelters/food
pantry located at the Central
Queens Y.
AUGUST
New school supplies to benefit
local school districts and school
programs.
North Shore Towers residents
have been briskly filling the
bins, donating essential daily
items for the needy throughout
New York City. Thank you, and
keep up the great work in our
community!
