North Shore Towers Courier n June 2015 9 BOB RICKEN PAST PRESIDENT OF NST BOARD (2009-2014) FORMER CHAIRMAN OF FINANCE COMMITTE ACCOMPLISHMENTS • In 7 years on the board I have never missed a board meeting, committee meeting or screening assignment. • In 5 years as President of NST we did not have an increase in maintenance or country club dues. • Reserve Funds grew from $6 million to $20 million. • In 2008 over 150 apartments were for sale and our prices were down 15%! From 2009-2014 we regained the 15% and added another 40% to our property values. • Apartments are now selling for the highest amount in North Shore Towers history! • Increased reserves allowed us to purchase new generators and refurbish the movie theater. • Founding member of the Presidents Council for Coops and Condos that met with elected offi cials to save the rebate we receive in June. • My Board created the new VIP Restaurant. I put the liquor license in my own name in order to strart our very popular Happy Hour. • ALL letters from residents were read at every monthly board meeting. BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE • Long term Superintendent of the Mineola Schools. • President of Nassua Citizens Budget Committee. • Interim Superintendent of Bellmore-Merrick High School District, Elmont, Smithtown, Half Hollow Hills, Bellmore and North Bellmore School Districts when they had a crisis in fi nances or leadership. • Senior Adjunct Professor at L.I.U. C.W. Post for 30 years teaching graduate courses in management, fi nances and negotiations. • Recipient of community service awards from A.DL., U.J.A., Hadassah and the Long Island Martin Luther King Award. • Life Achievement Awards for Brooklyn College, Long Island University and Phi Delta Kappa. • Author of 14 books and over 300 articles in the N.Y. Times. Newsday, Sports Illustrated, The Harvard Review, Harper’s Weekly and numerous professional journals. Most recent book is subtitled, “How to Be a Compassionate and Decisive Leader”. Serving the North Shore Towers Community as Board Member during the past two years has been an honor. My only agenda has been to protect your economic interest by voting for economically sound expenditures to structurally maintain and upgrade our buildings and legislatively advocate for lower property taxes.
