Book & Author Luncheon
on Monday, April 29 at The Inn at
New Hyde Park, on Jericho Turnpike,
at 11:30 a.m. Featured guest
speaker is Jamie Bernstein, who’s
written an acclaimed memoir about
her father, the renowned composer
and conductor, Leonard Bernstein.
In “Famous Father Girl: A
Memoir of Growing Up Bernstein,”
Jamie, the oldest of three, describes
what it was like to live with the
dynamic, exuberant Bernstein.
Director of the New York
Philharmonic and composer of
“West Side Story,” “Candide,” and
more, Bernstein was the dominant
figure in American classical music
from the 1940s until his death in
1990. For his children, Bernstein
provided a household atmosphere
bursting with music, theatre, literature
and the cultural elite.
Jamie Bernstein’s own career
as an author, concert narrator,
filmmaker and rock musician,
demonstrates she’s inherited her
father’s passion for culture, music,
sharing and teaching. She has a
wonderful reputation as a speaker,
being described as relaxed, dynamic,
engaging and able to relate to
all audiences. A book signing will
follow her talk.
The Inn at New Hyde Park, is
located at 214 Jericho Turnpike.
Established in 1938, it is an elegant,
spacious venue, offering delicious
food. An elegant four-course
luncheon has been planned. Other
amenities include valet parking
and handicapped exits and

The couvert for this Migdal/
Hadassah event is $55 per person.

HERE’S WHAT THE CRITICS
ARE SAYING ABOUT “FAMOUS
FATHER GIRL” BY JAMIE
BERNSTEIN…
“Famous Father Girl” is
unique among classical music
memoirs for its physical intimacy,
its humor and tenderness.”
—The New Yorker
“Being his oldest child was
clearly both a joy and a curse.”
—The Week
“… as tentative as Jamie is
about her father’s excesses, she
is fiercer still in defending him.”
