review alluded: “What’s with all
the praise for Russell Crowe’s performance?
  The man just seems to
 shuffle about, clutching his briefcase
and wearing a grungy hat and
somehow that seems to qualify as
 fine acting.”
 One of the more perplexing
puzzles concerned a trio of movie
 posters, each with its respective
 title removed, for which players
were asked to identify the films.
Even with the film’s stars listed or
 prominently pictured, the third of
three seemed to give more than a
few teams pause to scratch their
 collective heads.
 The ultimate question measured
 each Team’s strategical savvy as
 well as its knowledge of filmdom;
 a five-part brain-teaser for which
each was asked to bet from 0–5
 points before the actual puzzle
was revealed. After the wagers were
in, the titles of five Oscar-winning
 Champions from Team 15, Cheryl
 and Carl Fass
 songs—one key word omitted in
 each—was projected onto the
 screen. Teams had to correctly
fill in the blanks in all to collect
the points. One mistake and the
 amount wagered would be deducted
 from a Team’s score.
As the curtain closed and the
houselights came up, there was one
 clear winner. The runner-up, however,
was still to be determined, as
two teams were locked in a tie for
second. A speed round would decide
the matter. One member of each of
the tied teams was selected to participate.
  Rosalie Feifer stepped forward
to represent Team 1, while Shelly
Amster rose to contest for Team 11.
 Michael delivered three questions
 rapid-fire; the first contestant to
answer each would get the point
 for that question. Shelly proved
 victorious. With the runner-up finally
 ascertained, the first place winner
 was announced—Team 15!
 Red carpet, seating, food service,
a trivia contest and awards presentation—
with a host to boot!—all in
 a breathless, fun-filled two hours…
 Would that the actual Academy
 Awards could accomplish such
 a feat!
