MEN’S CLUB NEWS
BY HOWARD ARKIN
The past few years have seen
changes in our lives that we
might never have imagined.
One change that I have experienced
is the amount of time that I am
spending in front of my television
set--too much time watching Netflix,
TCM and the political talk
shows.
One program that I will not give
up is the one on Channel 995 in
which Fred Chernow has North
Shore Towers residents relate
stories or events which they have
experienced in their past. So far
Fred has had almost 100 guests tell
their stories and you cannot fail
to be impressed by how well they
describe them. Most of the stories
cover periods over the past 50 or 60
years and my mind wanders back
and I try to think of the things that
I might have been experiencing at
that time.
Fred’s other program on Chanel
995, with the help of film clips and
pictures, shows us the careers of
such celebrities such as Ruth
Bader Ginsburg, Jack Benny and
Lucille Ball.
As North Shore Towers is attracting
some younger residents, Fred is
looking for some current luminaries
that he might be able to profile.
In the future, if any one has any
suggestions, feel free to call Fred at
347-836-8400 and he might be able
to accommodate you. Justin Bieber
might be a possibility, but please
no calls for Fanny Brice. Who is
Fanny Brice?
Another program that I discovered
over the past year is Board
President Ed Phelan’s weekly
report to North Shore Towers’ residents.
Ed has had his committee
chairmen report to us on issues
relating to their various committees.
There is no lack of information or
transparency on the show. Some
of the topics touched upon on
in last week’s program were the
continued workings on the garage,
the changing of our oil tanks, scaffolding
work on the buildings and
the plans to refurbish the arcade.
In closing, the Men’s Club would
like to thank John Virga, North
Shore Towers’
cinematographer
in residence, without whom
there might not be a Channel 995.
Get vaccinated and wear a mask.
On December 14, the Men’s Club held a terrific dinner at La Baraka,
which is located on Northern Blvd. in Little Neck. Everyone had a great
time. Hope you enjoy these pictures from the evening. Photos by Terry Feit
