1. NET ZERO ENERGY CHALLENGE: United Way of Long
Island celebrated Earth Day by transforming the nonprofit’s
headquarters in Deer Park into a building that produces as
much energy as it uses. 2. FUNDRAISER HONORS LATE 9/11
OFFICER: Build-a-Rig For Scott, a community-based nonprofit
on Long Island, held a charity event to build a ceremonial unit
rig in memory of the late retired NYPD Officer Scott Blackshaw,
who died at age 52 in 2018 of esophageal and brain cancer

Eliza Liebowitz and Benjy Rubin hosted Sid Jacobson JCC’s
Community Needs Bank’s Curb Your Mitzvah to raise funds and
gather more than 2,500 pounds of food and other products.
4. VOLUNTEERS CELEBRATED: Options for Community
Living, Inc., a provider of housing and supportive services for
vulnerable Long Island residents, is celebrating volunteers and

Brookhaven celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting

HAWKINS HOUSE: HISTORIANS HONORED: Brookhaven
Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner attended a “Thank You”
party and presented Service Awards in honor of the volunteers
who donated time and funding to make improvements at the
historic Hawkins House in Miller Place. 7. NDIVIDUALS WITH
DISABILITIES HELP FOOD INSECURE: A local program for
individuals with disabilities offered by Family Residences and
Essential Enterprises, Inc. (FREE) joined forces with The Sharing
Tables of the USA to help bring an abundance of food, clothing
and hygiene products to those who need them. 8. DIAPER
BANK DONATION In partnership with the Allied Foundation
Diaper Bank, Long Island’s only diaper bank, Help Me Grow–
Long Island recently donated 53,250 diapers and 43,200
baby wipes to struggling families for distribution through Island
Harvest Food Bank. 9. CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL FUNDRAISER:
Teachers Federal Credit Union made a $33,305.72 donation to
the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
