Opens Nail Studio in Baldwin
During a worldwide pandemic black owned
business owner Katherine Evelyn, seized the
opportunity and officially opened a commercial
location for The Nail Studio by MsKreativekay in
Baldwin.
“Timing is everything, as a business owner,
particularly a nail technician, we have the
opportunity to be a therapist and provide a safe
space for our clients to relax, especially during a
time where people have lost so much,” Evelyn said.
“I wanted to do something to help others get through
this difficult time. Opening The Nail Studio is me
doing my part.”.
Katherine Evelyn has a vision to be more involved
with the Baldwin community as well. She hopes
to begin holding classes and partnering with
community based organizations to support young
girls who are interested in becoming nail technicians.
Katherine “Katie” Evelyn knew she wanted a
career in the nail industry after falling in love with
the creative arts from an early age. She is an artist,
drawing, painting, and tracing became her favorite
pasttime. Her desire to become an entrepreneur
stemmed from watching her mother run a successful
beauty business from the comfort of her own home.
Katie began her professional journey in the nail
industry in 2001. She studied the art of nails at
the Long Island Nail & Skin Care Institute and
graduated from the Nail Academy in 2004. She
mastered the structure of the nail including filing,
shaping and the overall foundation of acrylic.
Katie’s dedication to the industry has allowed her
to gain a large and loyal following. She earned the
name “Mskreativekay” for her attention to detail,
bold design and stylish technique. She prides herself
on professionalism and work ethic.
Katie’s work has been featured in Ebony Style
(2012 Top 30 Nail Artists), Vogue Italia, Banana
Republic, Stevie Boi, Vibe Vixen Magazine and
more. Some of her clients include Cynthia Bailey
of Housewives of Atlanta, Kimbella of Love and Hip
Hop and world renowned model Chanel Iman. She
has worked for industry goliath Sephora and was
featured as a guest speaker at the University of
Virginia detailing her craft.
