Sunnyside Shines
Holiday Cheer
unnyside Shines delivered
a very special holiday gift
to the neighborhood this
year---two Saturdays of
free rides on a vintage trolley-style bus,
along with activities and specials galore
for riders and pedestrians alike. More
than 1,000 riders took advantage of the
trolley ride, which ran on November 25th
and December 2nd from 12-8 pm, and
hundreds more took advantage of the
face-painting, free gift wrapping, and
craft-making stations throughout the
district. Sunnyside Shines also hosted
cultural performances in Bliss Plaza (at
46th Street and Queens Boulevard),
including a theater production of the
beloved holiday classic “It’s a Wonderful
Life”, and a condensed performance
of The Nutcracker by the Sunnyside
Ballet School.
For those who missed out on the
trolley, the holiday cheer continues with
a money-saving “Sunnyside Shopping
Holiday Passport”, a booklet containing
money-saving coupons to 44 Sunnyside
businesses. Coupons are valid through
December 31st, and each coupon dou-bles
as a raffle ticket that gives the
redeemer an opportunity to win $500
worth of prizes from local retailers.
“Sunnyside Shines’ holiday festivities
are a celebration of everything that
people love about this neighborhood,
including the small businesses that give
our district such a unique and charming
quality. We hope that our programs,
and especially our local coupon book,
provide residents with a way to prepare
for the holidays in a way that supports
these pillars of our community.”
