FROM THE EDITOR
Summer is in full swing and I hope that you’ve
been soaking up the sun, LIC Courier readers!
For this issue, we highlight the plethora of
buildings set to rise in western Queens, what real
estate industry experts are saying for the future of
Long Island City and highlight a Queens resident
who is spearheading his company’s expansion
into the neighborhood.
In addition to real estate news, we highlight
several restaurants in town that have just moved
in or received a makeover. Sugar Freak in Astoria
recently moved into a bigger space and expanded
its menu, Katch Astoria added a backyard speak-easy
and Italian restaurant Piccolino is the newest
addition to the neighborhood.
We also take you inside Cosmic Fit Club, a Long
Island City fitness center that offers everything from
core conditioning, calisthenics, yoga, blacklight
yoga, acroyoga, acrobatics, handstands, kettle-bell
training, strength training, personal training,
gymnastics, dance and more.
Artist Jeff Henriquez also payed homage to
Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy, who spent much of
his time in Long Island City near the Queensbridge
Houses. The community showed an outpouring
of support by lighting candles to honor the late
rapper, who died last month from complications
due to sickle cell anemia.
Long Island City also recently welcomed a non-profit
that helps formerly homeless New Yorkers
become career ready. The Association of Com-munity
Employment Programs for the Homeless
(ACE) moved into a space at 30-30 Northern
Blvd. Its clients will help clean and beautify major
thoroughfares in Queens and will learn about job
readiness and have access to subsidized housing.
As always, we provide you with fun events,
comedy shows, art exhibits and more so that you
can have a good time in your own neighborhood.
