Sunnyside Shines
Memorial Jazz Concert
Sunnyside Shines is gearing up for
a 1920s-themed celebration of the life
and work of jazz great Bix Beiderbecke,
an influential cornet-player who lived
out his final days in Sunnyside. Sched-uled
for Thursday, August 3rd from 3-8
p.m., the annual tradition is now in its
17th year and is expected to attract
hundreds of attendees to Bliss Plaza,
in the heart of Sunnyside, to enjoy live
jazz, period-themed performances, and
refreshments.
This year’s concert will feature a jazz
performance headlined by local drummer
and Bix aficionado Paul Maringelli, whose
dogged pursuit of information on the Sun-nyside
days of Bix Beiderbecke evolved
into the beloved annual tradition that the
concert is today. Also featured will be a lim-ited
sampling of small batch, hand churned
ice cream by the Bliss Street Creamery, a
new local ice-cream purveyor that debuted
at this year’s Taste of Sunnyside.
“We are proud to be part of produc-ing
the Bix concert this year,” says
