“Figurations”
Running from May 8
through August 4
Queens native and artist Domingo Carrasco continues
to show his exhibit “Figurations” at Communitea in LIC.
“Figurations” celebrates color and form from an abstract
modernist standpoint. The exhibit attempts to idealize the
human spirit while simultaneously emphasizing Carrasco’s
fascination with color. It captures the artist’s struggles as he
seeks to tame the physical properties of the paint without
compromising the narrative element of the work, through
the use of bold lines and colors.

“Reza Abdoh”
Running from June 3
through September 3
The Iranian-American theater director left his mark on
the world of theater. This exhibition, the first large-scale
retrospective of Abdoh’s work, highlights the diverse video
works that he produced throughout his life. His works
confronted the challenges of the AIDs epidemic and the
culture wars of the Reagan era. Additionally, his works also
addressed issues that are prevalent today, including those
surrounding sexual orientation, gender, race, class, and
privilege.
