SUNNYSIDE SHINES ANNOUNCES
‘SUNNYSIDE DAY’ AT CITI FIELD!
www.qns.com I LIC COURIER I JUNE 2018 17
Sunnyside Shines is ushering in the
summer with a community outing to
Citi Field! On Wednesday, July 11th,
Sunnyside Shines is “Non Profit of the
Game” for the Mets vs. Phillies game;
the organization is celebrating by organizing
a community outing along with
prizes and giveaways for participants
and a group appearance on Citi Field’s
Jumbotron.
The “Non Profit of the Game” designation
comes with special privileges, including
the chance to honor an individual who
has been instrumental to the success of
the organization and its community. Sunnyside
Shines has announced that they
will honor New York City Council Member
Jimmy Van Bramer behind home plate
before the first pitch is thrown.
“Sunnyside Shines is now in its 10th
anniversary year,” says Sunnyside Shines
Executive Director Jaime-Faye Bean,
“and for nine of those years Jimmy Van
Bramer has been our local Council Member
and has supported us every step of
the way in beautifying and revitalizing
this terrific neighborhood.”
Bean notes the many improvements
that the Council Member has supported in
Sunnyside’s commercial district, including
hanging flower baskets, holiday lighting,
street benches, tree guards, small business
marketing and support, and the formation
of Sunnyside’s two public plazas at 40th
and 46th Streets under the elevated 7 train.
“We are most excited about our current
Sunnyside Arch renovations,” she
adds, referencing impending improvements
to the local landmark. “The Arch
is at the heart of our neighborhood, the
upgrades to modern, programmable LED
lighting the Council Member has made
possible will allow us to make the most
of this community marker.”
Bean also notes that going to a
baseball game is a time-honored way
of ushering in summer, and that the opportunity
for Sunnysiders to do so as a
community is a unique opportunity. “We
see the incredible neighborhood spirit
our residents have at events like Taste
of Sunnyside, or our performance events
in Bliss Plaza,” she notes.
“We’re excited to take this sense of
community pride and camaraderie along
the 7 line to Citi Field.”
Members of the community and
others wishing to celebrate with
the Council Member and Sunnyside
Shines will have the option of meeting
in Sunnyside for Happy Hour before
the game and travel to Citi Field together.
All ticket holders in the Sunnyside
Shines block will also receive
a free drink and 10% savings voucher
for McFadden’s at Citifield, along with
additional giveaways. Those interested
in joining can reach out to the
Sunnyside Shines office to purchase
tickets by calling 718-606-1800 or
emailing info@sunnysideshines.org.
