 A festive opening day parade
 on Sunday with music
 from bagpipes and a
 fl ag raising ceremony as
well as a moment of silence for
the recent passing of a wonderful
 coach.

 BANTAMS DIVISION
 It was a tough opening
day for fi rst time coach Manu
 Urquhart and his assistant
 coach Nick Rizzi. Their Division
 team, Cestras Pizza, had
 a game against Uncurtain Inc.
The fi rst half kept goalie Alex
 Rola quite busy who played
 well throughout the game,
but was not able to stop 5 in
the fi rst half from constant
 pressure from a well organized
 Uncurtain. Starting defenders
 Matthew Urquhart,
Madison De La Cruz and Max
 Cardi started off rocky, but
 played much better towards
the back end of the fi rst half.
The rest of the starters, Adriana
 Rizzi, Aliana Didimenico
 and cousin Gianna Didimenico,
  did not get many scoring
chances as they were forced to
 help out defensively for most
of the half. The second half
 showed some promise for the
 Cestras. Though they were
scored on twice more, they put
up a way better fi ght. A swift
 counter attack spearheaded
 by Adrianna Rizzi, ended with
a hand ball in the box leading
to a penalty for the Cestras. It
was calmly put away by Matthew
 Urquhart. The Cestras
seemed to gain life from this
 happening and had other close
chances but never were able to
 score again. The game ended
7-1 in favor of Uncurtain, I
 can’t wait for next week.
 International Caterers
 suffered a tough loss against
Spot On with a fi nal score of
 5-1. Gabriel Perez assisted a
 lone goal by Michael Santucci.
 Jordyn Straussman played an
 amazing offense with Julianna
 Wisniewski while Natalie
 Amelio and Jamel Lang
 played a hard fought defense.
 Marcos Guerrero was outstanding
 as goalie as Thomas
 Colt and Kaleigh Lawton was
always fi ghting for the ball.
 Barino’s Market had a
tough start to the fi rst game
of the season falling behind 3
goals in the fi rst few minutes.
 By halftime, the team showed
great effort and tied the game
 3-3. Daniel Ellison #10 scored
3 more goals in the second
half and his twin sister, Maya
Ellison #9, scored the 7th and
fi nal goal. The game ended 7-5
 with both teams, Barino’s and
 American Cleaners, showing
 great teamwork and effort.
 For many of these children
this was the fi rst time they
ever player soccer in a game,
but it sure didn’t look like it.
Spot On started a little rocky
 when International took an
early lead of 1-0, but once Spot
 On got their strategy together
 they continued to stay on
 their game. Offensive player,
 Ryan Faulkner, had an impressive
 3 goals. While Nico
 Camino scored 1 while also
 holding down defense for half
 the game. Julianna Mosca
had full fi eld breakaway for
her fi rst goal of her career.
 Other offensive stand outs
 were Madelyn Perrino and
Aaron Piparo each with 2 assists.
     Defensively, Dominic
 Ventolla controlled the ball in
mid fi eld, while Nicolette Donovan
 held the opposing team
to 1 goal. Goalie Gabriel Deleon
 had multiple saves and
 played very well, especially
for a last minute decision to
 play this position. Final score
 was 5 - 1.
 MINORS DIVISION
 Opening Day was an exciting
 one! Global Container
came out to play as they went
 head to head with Brewski’s.
Irvin Ruiz scored the fi rst
goal of the game, but Brewski’s
 answered quickly after.
 Everyone played extremely
 well, defensively, mid-fi elder’s
 Lauren Esposito and
 Mallory Ventolla kept the
ball on the opposing side of
 the fi eld. Connor Guarnieri
 had multiple saves at goal.
 Offensively, Frankie Mosca
had a hat trick with 3 goals,
 Richie Guarnieri had a single
goal from almost half fi eld.
 Nikolas Maldando and Ruiz
also had goals in the second
half. Ryan & Sean Keily had
 2 assists each. Final score
 was 7-2, Global Container for
 the win.
 BRONX TIMES REPORTER, S 58 EPTEMBER 13-19, 2019 BTR
 In their season-opening
 game, Kaseman Family Chiropractic
 wowed with a 5-1
 triumph over Dr.
 Ken Gonoud. Goals were
 scored by Caleb Hernandez
 (2), Cameron Faulkner-Bravo
 (2), and Ayla Sanchez with
the game winner (1). The goal
 was excellently tended by Gianna
 Cannella, saving-not
 one- but two penalties. The
 midfi eld was expertly played
 by Deanna Kaseman and Isabella
 Diaz, and the defense
 was kept strong by Owen
 O’Sullivan and Gabriela Fortich.
  The coaches could not
be prouder of these kids in a
stunning fi rst game that will
set the bar for what will hopefully
 be a great season.
 St. Benedicts were 1-0
 winners over Schuyler Hill
in a tough opening day battle.
  Scoring the lone goal was
 Danielle Schack off the assist
 from Joseph Balbona. The
 midfi elders, led by Sophia
 Cifu, Angelina Rodriguez,
 Jason D’Agostino, and Chloe
Cruz, moved the ball up fi eld
 beautifully, creating a number
 of opportunities on the
 attack. The defense refused
 to break as Alessandra Romeo,
  Isabella Bondi, Sarah
 Polanco, and Wint Kennedy
 quickly defused any attack
 from Schuyler Hill. Sharing
 the shutout with some great
saves each in goal were Ryan
 Clarke and Jonathan Beauvoir.
   Overall great team effort
 in a hard earned win!

 On a beautiful September
 morning, Dr. Ken Gonoud’s
 team took on Kaseman Chiropractor.
  The game was
 dominated by Kaseman and
 their strong offensive front.
 Dr. Gonoud’s team was resilient
 in the second half
and managed to score 1 goal
 by forward Justin Bell. The
Gonoud’s lost their fi rst game
of the season by a score of 5-1....
Coach is confi dent that the
fi rst game jitters took the aggressiveness
 out of the team..
but watch out for the upcoming
 second game against St.
 Benedict’s. Looking forward
 to next week!!!
       BOYS MAJORS
 The 2019 season began with
 a bang for Bronxville Auto.
 Early afternoon ,Bronxville
 met up against Stans Sports
Bar for a very competitive affair.
  The game was very competitive
for the fi rst half with
 both teams showing their defensive
 schemes. Bronxville’s
 defense was led by Ernest
 Beam, Christopher Flanagan,
 Jeremiah Camares , Finn
 Wiehler, Frankie Monty,and
 Dylan Almestica. Offensively,
the team was led by Darin
 Jurado, Max Wiehler,Mario
 Noka, and Jayden Piparo.
 The midfi eld made some
plays in order to support the
 front line. Brian Jurado, Matteo
 Marrone, Nicholas Bolla,
 Aaron Diaz, Giuseppe Miero
 and Daniel Lopez supported
 the front line while falling
 back for a defensive front.
 Goalie Geo Gonzalez made
several stops to keep us in
 the game. Bronxville’s Finn
 Wiehler managed to score
the only goal that brought in
our fi rst victory of the season.
 Well played game throughout...
 looking forward to our
 second match against P. Hegarty
 Builders in a morning
 event.
 Cardinal Spellman kicked
off opening day with a 5-0 win
 over P. Hegarty Builders this
 weekend. The older Christos
 Argyros (2-Goals) opened up
the game and season with the
fi rst goal and second goal! Following
 his older cousin, little
 Christos Argyros (1-Goal) also
 scored which was assisted by
his big Cuz! An amazing left
footed shot from 20 yards out
 by Christopher Crowe added
 to Cardinal Spellman’s score.
 An amazing push in offense
by the Jones Twins led to a
 corner kick which then resulted
 in a penalty that was
 scored and secured the win
 by Gino Savona. Matthew
 Cuebas, Senid Godusevic had
shots on goal but the ball just
wouldn’t fi nd its way in the
 net. The defensive wall was
 shielded by Ryan Picard,
 Ryan Barrios, Salif Kone and
 Dylan Rosado. They made
 sure that their goalie, Robert
 “Blaise” Bauman had help in
 securing their shut out.
 GIRLS MAJORS
 Michael Anthony vs Capital
 Shield ... Hard fought game
 that could have gone either
 way. Capital Shield scoring
the only goal of the game with
only 2 minutes left to play. It
was a great shot chip just out
of reach over the goalies head(
 Vanessa Lopez). Vanessa also
 didn’t let Capital Shield score
on a penalty shot earlier in
the game. We had our chances
 (Michael Anthony’s) Kayliegh
 Crowe, Miranda Loughery,
 and Kailey Siegmund defi -
 nitely put the pressure on
 Capital Shield’s defense but
weren’t able to get the ball
past there goalie this time but
 are looking forward to playing
 them again. The defense Abigail
 Harkins, Gabby Dinino,
 and Julianna Rachiele did a
 tremendous job keeping Capital
 Shield’s strong offense
away from their goal most of
 the game. Half backs Jamie
 Kibler, and Ava Shkreli had
 lots of energy supporting both
 offense and defense.
 Capital Shield Insurance
wins their fi rst game of the
season 1-0. It was a tough game
 throughout with both teams
playing hard. In the fi rst half,
 offensive players Sia Karampimperis,
   Jessica Dineen
and Allison Conde did a fantastic
 job working the ball
up and taking shots on goalie
 Vanessa but she wouldn’t let
them get one in. Assists from
 Emily Gutierrez and Emmie
 Rodrigz kept the pressure on.
 Midfi elders Olivia Lopez and
 Neomi Gonzalez did their best
to stay on players from Michael
 Anthony’s during what
would be their fi rst games at
 AFC. While defensive players
 Nina Karampimperis, Jade
 Haney and Angelica Rubino
 along with Adriana Carbajal
 keeping Michael Anthony’s
 from getting through. But in
the second half, when they did
 get through, Capital Shield’s
 goalie, Charlize Apunte, had
 some great saves throughout
keeping a shutout. In the last
2 minutes of the game, after
missing a fi rst penalty of the
 season and getting her nerves
 out, Jessica Dineen scored the
loan goal to win the game. Go
 Capital Shield!!
