As we approach the beginning
of summer and its
lovely, warm weather, there’s
a golden opportunity to take
in more than the sun - it’s a
time to take in all the Bronx
has to offer.
While Yankee games and
a trip to the Bronx Zoo with
its new dinosaur safari are
quite enticing and make for
a lovely day uptown, its only
two of the many options for a
superb Bronx time.
Heading from east to
west, there’s plenty to a family
busy starting with the
city’s largest green space,
Pelham Bay Park and Orchard
Beach.
After a lovely walk along
the Long Island Sound waterfront
, there’s miniature
golf and two well-maintained
golf courses and the historic
Bartow-Pell House Museum
nearby. If your nautical
urges become overwhelming
then head over to City Island
for some outstanding seafood,
waterfront views, great
fishing and much more.
Afterwards, continue
down the westbound trail
of Pelham Parkway to the
New York Botanical Garden
where one of the most
unique and somewhat odiferous
flowers is currently in
bloom; either way it’s an experience
like no other.
Plus, you can head over
to Wave Hill in Riverdale to
smell the lilacs and lavender,
while clearing your sinuses.
If you appreciate the green
of the borough but want to
do more than just stop and
smell the flowers then take
Mosholu Parkway and head
over to Van Courtlandt Park
for a round of 18 holes at one
of the most impressive public
golf courses shy of Bethpage
State Park. As a matter
of fact, even Babe Ruth kept
a locker in its historic clubhouse
during his playing
days.
It’s understandable that
some athletes prefer a court
to a course and if that’s the
case then the borough has
you covered as well.
Head over to Crotona
Park to see the modern marvel
that is the public Cary
Leeds Tennis Center and
Learning that was blessed
by Billie Jean King herself.
After such a busy day,
you’ll probably have worked
up quite the appetite and if
so then you’re in luck. If it’s
a burger you seek, then look
no further than Milk Burger
in Mott Haven. For the best
empanadas in the borough
then continue down Bruckner
Boulevard to Empanology
beneath the Third Avenue
Bridge. You can’t go
wrong with Crosby Pizza or
Louie and Ernie’s as well.
Not much beats Mike’s Deli
in the Arthur Avenue Retail
Market for a jam packed
Italian sandwich either. Although,
if you’re on Arthur
Avenue then seek out Danielle
Oteri for a tour of the
famed street with a taste test
included.
These is just a handful of
Bronx adventures that this
reporter recommends for a
lovely summer’s day.
For an up-to-date list of all
the great warm weather happenings
in the borough keep
reading the Bronx Times!

The Bronx Zoo’s Dinosaur Safari is an immersive experience taking adventurers
on a ride through a two-acre wooded area of the Bronx Zoo
where 40 ultra-realistic, life-sized animatronic dinosaurs lurk.
