Change 52 | BOROMAG.COM | SEPTEMBER 2014 BODY & SOUL By Hayley Bridgewater Matrix Fitness Club and Personal Training Center New Renovations, Even More Equipment and OCR Specific Training. If you have stopped by Matrix lately, you might have noticed some beautiful renovations in progress. And to add to their already impressive arsenal, more equipment and training tools seem to show up every day. While I will be sharing more about these particular additions in a future issue, I am excited to tell you about a new OCR training program. Obstacle Course Racing is currently one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. Are you interested? Want the inside track to preparing for one? NSCA-CPT Performance Trainer Michael Minnai has designed an advanced 8-week training program to prepare you to complete and conquer the most challenging obstacle races. This high-intensity training program will have you crawling, pushing, pulling, climbing, and running at your peak performance levels. During each of the first 5 weeks, you will perfect specific tactical strategies of the course; the final weeks will have you incorporating everything that you have learned to increase strength, endurance, and prepare you for the unexpected. Participants are encouraged to sign up for NYC’s Urbanathlon and race as a team on October 25. The 16-session, 8-week course includes training techniques and programming, as well as advice on performance and nutritional planning for recovery. A very successful summer season has allowed the Sage family to add additional training staff and new equipment to the Astoria and Whitestone locations. And if the client boom weren’t exciting enough, they are expanding further into Queens. The third—and largest—location of the Sage empire will be opening in the very near future at 34-38 Bell Boulevard in Bayside. At the time of this publication, the opening was set for Sept. 2nd. Keep an eye on their social media presence for up to the minute information. www.Sagefit.com Fitness First Training Systems Kicking ass and taking names. And not just for the summer. The troops are having so much fun over at Fitness First Training Systems that boot camps have been extended into the fall season. Never the same workout twice, the guys will test your strength, speed, agility, endurance, and even your competitive spirit. FitnessFirst.TrainingSystems@gmail.com www.facebook.com/ FitnessFirstTrainingSystems Simply Fit Expanding the offerings. With a knack for keeping her clientele challenged and fulfilled, Lisa Eskenazi is adding new content to the already diverse Simply Fit lineup. After successful demos this summer, Pound, PiyYo, and soon, Insanity, will be on the regular schedule. Pound is a full body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming with the Pound Ripstix. The workout fuses cardio, Pilates and isometric poses into a 45-minute series. Burn between 400-900 calories per hour and strengthen and sculpt those muscles. After your 45-minute rocking out, continue to tone abs with an additional 15 minutes of mat work. PiYo combines the musclesculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga. These classes crank up the speed to deliver a true fat burning, low-impact workout that leaves your body looking lean and incredibly defined. Insanity is a cardiobased total-body conditioning program based on the principles of MAX Interval Training. These 3-5 minute intervals with 30 second rest periods push the participant to new training heights, resulting in more calories burned, faster results, and a more efficient metabolism. Simply Fit new formats will join popular offerings such as Piloxing, Zumba, Zumba Sentao, and Zumba Toning. www.SimplyFitAstoria.com CKO Astoria Pushing The Boundaries. If you have ever stepped into CKO Astoria, or had the pleasure of meeting Leo and Anthony, you will know that they don’t do anything small. The widespread popularity of their fitness kickboxing classes has allowed them to hire additional trainers, add a new weight training area to the gym, and offer personal training and individualized kickboxing skills training. Do yourself a favor and stop in to see the changes. www.CKOAstoria.com Catching up with As the summer comes to a close, I can’t help but look back on a whirlwind season of change and excitement in Queens. We have seen it across the spectrum—in food, retail, music, theatre and art, real estate, and certainly in fitness. It is sad to me that there are only 24 hours in a day, and a limited reserve of energy at my disposal, otherwise a great many of them would see me waltzing through the doors of their businesses more often. So, of course, a “catch up” with a few of our friends is in order.
