The funny thing is my mother never wore makeup. My father’s mother puts on her face top to tails everyday. We are talking fake eyelashes, like an hour and a half every morning. When I was younger I remember sitting in the bathroom, mesmerized by her. I started wearing makeup when I was thirteen; I got my parents to relent. When I did start wearing it, I decided I was going to wear all the colors. I was going to wear teal, and bright green, and glitter. I was the kid wearing gold glitter to high school. That’s my thing. I studied fashion and design in college. I think the creative aspect of making a look is what I really like. I’m not a person who wears the same makeup every day, because I like the idea of sort of putting on your costume in the morning. As long as my face looks good when I leave the house in the morning, that’s cool. I could have on leggings and converse. As long as the face looks good, I’m good. I learned my makeup tricks from trial and error. Very much so. The whole YouTube and Internet thing came much later to me. Looking at pictures helps, but a lot of the time it was dictated by mood and deciding that I wanted to learn how to do this. 24 | BOROMAG.COM | SEPTEMBER 2014 CHARACTERS Interview + Photo Lizabeth Nieves Molly Zito is the Beauty Blogger of The Unanimous Molly I don’t know if I have any one particular influence. I love the idea of looking lived in, like Bardot. I like makeup that isn’t too done. If you look at runway makeup it’s not done. I started my blog, The Unanimous Molly, when I was two weeks out of college and just like everyone else, completely at a loss about what I was going to do next. The blog was a very conscious effort to fill my time with something I loved and to put it out there. The blog is three years old now. Some of the upcoming trends for fall 2014? I love copper. I don’t know if it's going to be a trend, but it comes back every year or so. I love to pair that with a deep red lip. Very blended and shiny with a matte lip. High contrast. The key to finding something new with your makeup is just to walk out the door with it. If you want to try something, get used to it on you because no one else is going to say anything to you about it. Some must-have makeup items are a great mascara, an under-eye concealer, a really bright lip product. If you wear nothing else, those three things will set you free. You can make anyone think you tried really hard and you didn’t. A big goal of mine is to maintain an active role in a community of men and women who really like the honesty that a blog, YouTube channel or Internet voice gives you.
