Dear Western Queens, As summer draws to a close, we say goodbye to the hugely successful Astoria Flea at Kaufman Studios. But when one door closes, another one opens—and we are excited to share the LIC Food & Flea will now return to both Saturdays and Sundays. We also want to wish the men at Ice & Vice and the Falafel King the best of luck at this year’s Vendy Awards, along with all the other carts and stands that will be competing. This month, Japanese food takes a spotlight as we learn a little about the history of okonomiyaki and where we can order it—or purchase the ingredients to attempt our own renditions. We also satisfied our sweet tooth with a delicious dorayaki at Hibino. And there is no denying the outrageous talent found in our very own backyards. Nina Burri wowed us this month on America’s Got Talent, and we tapped into the abilities of some of the senior pillars of our community at Sunnyside Community Services.
