walls, framing the TV. But the focal point of
the living room is a large fig leaf tree.
“It was really important to me to have a
bit of greenery in every room,” Costa said.
“It brings so much more warmth into every
space,” Michalak added.
Costa’s love for color is seen in the living
room rug, full of pinks, oranges and blues.
But her true design style is especially apparent
in her home office adjacent to the
living space.
“Obviously, this space is really pink and
girly,” Costa said. “It was really nice — John
kind of let me take charge and do what I want
in this space. It’s where I go to get inspired.”
It really is a creative haven. It’s outfitted
with a daybed (which turns into a real bed for
visiting relatives) and a desk area. The huge
arched window bathes the space in light.
“The starting point was this rug,” Costa explained.
“I saw it on Lulu and Georgia and I
knew I had to have it. It was on my Pinterest
board before we knew we were moving.”
The pink and blue rug has a Southwestern
feel that the rest of the room mimics.
Costa said she was inspired by the color
and old Hollywood glamor of Palm Springs.
“It’s my favorite place to be, so I like to
bring a little bit of that Southwest kind of
feel into my design,” Costa said. “I love cacti
