Costa took the reins on the design front
— it’s a passion of hers and something she’s
developing into a side business, along with
wedding planning (check her out at ellecurates.
com).
“In more recent years, I’ve really geared
toward mid-century modern,” Costa said,
“but I like to pull from different inspirations.
Emily Henderson is one of my favorites;
I love everything she does. I love Joanna
Gaines. I love the natural elements in her
space — the little pops of wood.”
That’s not to say Michalak’s preferences
weren’t part of the process, too. Their
combined tastes have created a polished
mid-century look, accented with geometric
shapes, metallic finishes and lots of color.
“If it’s got a gold finish, she’s happy, and
if it’s got an angular shape, then it works for
me, too,” Michalak said, “so that’s kind of
how we arrived here.”
At the center of the living room sits a circular,
gold-edged glass coffee table topped with Joanna
Gaines’ “Magnolia Table” and a “Homesick”
New York scented candle. It’s surrounded
by a plush, light blue couch, a white floor pouf
and Costa’s grandmother’s chair from the ‘50s
that she’s covered with a knit blanket.
