DR. BRITTANY R.
RICHARDS

NEW YORK CITY COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY
Dr. Brittany R. Richards is an Assistant Professor at the New York City College of Technology and is a Brooklyn
Native, and the daughter of Jamaican parents. As a first generation American she learned the importance of education
and resiliency at an early age.
Dr. Richards graduated from University at Buffalo where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Magna
Cum Laude, and was the sole recipient of the Excellence in Nursing Award. She has been a Doctoral prepared and
Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and an experienced Nurse Educator. While working as a full-time Critical
Care Registered Nurse, Dr. Richards concurrently pursued her Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing
Practice at Columbia University.
Practicing as an advance provider in communities that were medically underserved, sparked her research interests
in Health Disparities; particularly in Mental Health Services and Awareness as well as the Black Maternal Health
Crisis. Dr. Richards has been a community activist, healthcare advocate, and a Millennial Nurse. She has understood
the importance of primary prevention, and has been working to educate the community by organizing health fairs,
trainings, and workshops within various neighborhoods across New York City.
Dr. Richards has been a firm believer of Nurses rising to the occasion of being involved in legislation that directly
impacts patient safety and the future of healthcare. Her passion to be of service to all, extends to her membership
in various organizations such as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated., Church of God of Prophecy, and the
Greater NYC Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association, where she has been serving as the Chair of the
Health Policy Committee, and was instrumental in coordinating informative town halls about COVID-19. When NYC
became the Epi-Center of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Dr. Richards continued to work as a Nurse Educator remotely,
while battling the virus on the frontline as a Critical Care Registered Nurse.
