ANTHONY BECKFORD
CO-FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT
BLACK LIVES MATTER, BROOKLYN
Anthony Beckford is the Co-Founder and President of Black Lives Matter Brooklyn. A Disabled U.S. Marine Corps
Veteran, single father, Community Organizer Leader and the son of Afro-Carib immigrant parents from Jamaica,
Beckford truly has experienced many obstacles and accomplishments throughout his life.
Beckford started his advocacy at the early age of 12 years old and has grown to become the leader in our City
and in the Movement that we see today. No matter how many hurdles are placed in his way, he has been able to
overcome the challenges and maintain his mission to be the voice and the representation of the people.
His work in the Black Lives Matter movement and as a community leader has been recognized by various elected
officials. Beckford continues to do the work not for accolades or self interest, he does it for the underserved, voiceless
and ignored. He does it for the future generations.
“I am truly honored to receive the Caribbean Impact Award. As the son of Afro-Carib immigrant parents from
Jamaica and raised mainly by my single mother, I fully embrace my culture and the teachings I received as a child.
The work that I have committed to do for the people is out of selflessness and genuine concern.”
“I plan to continue that work in the movement and in politics. It is never done for the accolades and praise, but it
is very humbling when it is recognized by others and can be used as an example to help motivate other people to
commit to helping their fellow neighbor and their community. There is much more work to be done and I am ready to
work with even more people to get it done.” said Beckford regarding receiving this award.
