Upcoming Events Calendar
December is upon us! It is amazing how fast the years fl y by. This
year there was a lot of excitement on the LGA, JFK and Newark airport
redevelopments-lots to cheer about with the upcoming 21st
Century airports in progress and about to begin as well as the huge
number of jobs and opportunities that these redevelopments will
create This is great news for 2019 and going years into 2025. That is
a lot to be grateful for in terms of our Queens community economy.
Unfortunately the holidays are not as charitable to the homeless
that live or perpetually roam JFK Airport. Many people
without a home not means to afford a shelter wander the Airtrain
and public areas of the airport. While most are basically invisible
people, there have been a couple of instances of physical threatening
behavior. The Port and PAPD are looking for humane ways
to work with these people. But, during the holidays it is a bit of a
sadness that other humans have to live like this. The Doe Fund
is an organization that helps the homeless and Second Change individuals
get back on their feet. If you wish to donate, goto:

LGA Turns 80, Airport improves with age. LaGuardia Airport turned 80 on December 2nd.
The original tiny 1929 airport in the sparsely populated Elmhurst area has grown tremenduosly
and continues to do so. LGA is currently in the midst of redevelopment which will
take it to world class status when completed. It is a far cry from the small airfield that
then Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia flew into rather than grace a New Jersey airfield with his
presence. The original Curtiss Airfield, then North Beach Airport name was changed to
LaGuardia in the 1953. The Boeing " Flying Boat" B314 Clipper was a regular plane using
the Marine Air Terminal in 1940 flying to Portugal when the LGA was an internationl
airport.
