Flight Services, opened the
meeting, which was held at
the Port Authority JFK Bldg
14, at 10.00am.

U.S. Customs Deputy Supervisor
Eoandis said that
he was standing in for Chief
Inspector Redes and Deputy
Bowe. both of whom are retiring
in December. A new
Assistant Chief of CBP Mark
Mathis was appointed but no
replacement for either retiree
was made yet. There will be
two dinners for both of the retiring
Officers:
Bill Bowe’s party is old for
November. Reservations for
Bob Redes and Mary Benzie
party on January 16 at the Carltun
required by January 10th.
THE state of FOD was covered
at the meeting with Jensen,
saying he met with Port
Guillio Manguillo who said
the PA did a sweep of the
Ramp area and they towed
containers and pallets as well
by a private company to handle
the return or disposition
of the items. There will be a
fee of $25.00 per unit and after
60 days from Dec. 1, 2019 after
which unclaimed units will be
destroyed. There may also be
towing charges but he is unsure
of cost at this time.
Charles Conti, head of the
USPS mail facilities at JFK, was
invited to speak at this meeting
but he was unable to attend.
He issued a statement saying,
“they are fully staffed for the
peak season. They have hired
temps to supplement their staff;
Building 197 is now opened;
they are now processing shipments
24 hours a day and recommend
that Carriers arrange
to deliver mail on off hours. “
However, there 200 LD3s to be
processed as a back log without
any snow storms. but despite
this, there are no significant
problems as have been in the
past with overwhelming shipments.
ISo far, imports have
been down which many believe
is due to the tariff issues.
Mike Bednarz of Port said
they did a survey of the transportation
congestion on the
Airport. They found that the
roadways are not congested.
They have setup Staging Area
for trucks. The congestion
seems caused at the carrier
facilities as many local truckers
are showing up before the
freight is ready.
Don Hoffman of the Freight
Brokers and Forwarders Association
held their Air Line
meeting Wednesday Nov 20.
however only one air Carrier
attended. There is a lack of Air
Carriers currently participating
in these importing meetings
where an exchange of
Ideas to improve the JFK Airport
problems, i.e, trucks are
still waiting extended times
at facilities and this is unacceptable
and costs all parties
money and driving business
to other airports. One cause
of the problem was suggested
by audience that Brokers are
sending delivery orders out
before checking freight is
available for pick up. This is
especially prevalent for LDL
shipments as the carriers
have to unload the containers.
Jensen reported that a new
carrier location report will be
available soon as a number of
carriers are in the process of
relocating from building151 as
Amazon should be taking over
part of that facility.
Kiera Mejia of the ARK
said that they are seeing a
large increase in importation
of dogs in the passenger terminals
but they have been able to
handle them.
Terry Williams of MSN
said that they are currently
utilizing two facilities on the
Airport Buildings 81 and 263
and he will be attending our
meetings in the future.
The KAAMCO Cargo Annual
Party will be held on
December 6, 2019 at the Lawrence
Country Club.
JFK Air Cargo Association
‘Toys for Tots’ will have their
party and donations on December
12, 2019.
The Airport Voice said
they would like to publish articles
of about 500 Words about
any interesting items of interest
in the Cargo realm.
JFK Chamber will have a
Panel from Farmingdale University
for Seniors interested
in Aviation Jobs on November
22 at Building 14.
The following Agencies
were called for comments
but were not present and we
would benefit from their future
attendance: TSA, Fish &
Wildlife, FBI, CDC and USPS
There will not be a Kaamco
Cargo meeting in December
due to the Annual Holiday
Dinner Dance on Dec. 06, at
the Lawrence Country Club.
The next KAAMCO Cargo
Committee meeting will be
on the last Thursday of the
month January 30, 2020.
