Port Authority invites stakeholders to celebratory ribbon cutting
Renovated runway, expanded taxiways advance A NEW JFK
“Not just a Port Authority
victory but a victory for the
community”
The Port Authority reopened
runway 13L-31R at
John F. Kennedy International
Airport following an accelerated,
seven-month complete
runway replacement
that included the addition of a
new high-speed taxiway, part
of a package of state-of-goodrepair
and system-enhancing
measures to improve operations
at the airport.
Port Authority Aviation
Director Huntley Lawrence
praised the completion and
re-opening of the renovated
major runway at JFK Airport
saying “Not just a Port Authority
Victory but a Victory
for the community. We are
pleased to complete this project
on time and within budget,
and we appreciate the cooperation
and collaboration from
the FAA, our airline partners,
terminal operators and surrounding
communities.”
Aptly so since the shut
down of one of the four major
runways at JFK was on
the minds of the airlines,
terminal operators and FAA
when the project was first
announced over a year ago.
They feared that the project
would disrupt operations.
However, the community
came together after many
meetings with the Port. The
meetings between the Port
and the stakeholders resulted
in a constructive and collaborative
approach to the project
with transparency and a
communication pipeline all
along the way. The project is
the result of a successful collaboration
among the Port,
the FAA, and the airlines in
planning for and completing
the project with minimal im-

Port OKs JFK T1 lease. Ground breaks in 2020

On Nov. 21, 2019, the PANYNJ
Board of Commissioners
approved a proposed lease
for The New Terminal One on
the south side of John F. Kennedy
International Airport.
Just 23 months after Governor
Cuomo announced his
vision for A New JFK Airport,
the Port Authority approved
the lease between the agency
and developers of Terminal
One.

The Port Authority will enter
into the lease agreement
for The New Terminal One
with a consortium of airlines–
Lufthansa, Air France, Japan
Airlines and Korean Air
Lines–and development and
financial partners -The Carlyle
Group, JLC Infrastructure
and the Union Labor
Life Insurance Company (Ullico)–
for the design, construction,
financing, operation and
maintenance of the new, sustainability
designed and future
focused state-of-the-art
terminal as part of the JFK
Redevelopment project.
JetBlue and its Millennium
Partners are next in line to receive
approval for their development.
These two projects
along with the current American
Airlines upgrade currently
total over $13 billion in
infrastructure improvements
at JFK. Similar projects are
in the works and development
at Newark International and
LaGuardia as well. Ground
breaking is expected in mid
2020 will full completion in
2025 for JFK Terminal One.
