Newark
Concessions
Symposium
Opens
Opportunities to
all Businesses
The Port Authority held its second Concessions
Symposium at Newark on November 14, following
the initial symposium held at the Queens Borough
President’s Office weeks earlier. The Port is spending
a lot of time holding these symposiums to make
the public aware of concessions opportunities in
the redevelopment of airports and in this case Newark
International Terminal One.
Both Governors Cuomo and Murphy have mandated
that considerable more opportunities be made
available to MWBE, ACDBE and small businesses.
To this end, this symposium program featured individuals
from both large and small companies who
currently have concessions within an airport, and
who are willing to discuss the overall process, financial
requirements and partnering with larger
prime vendors who will bring in smaller businesses
to meet diversity goals.
There were several successful vendors present at
the symposium for networking purposes including
AMAC, ASDO, CAO, CONRAC Austin/VRH Corp.,
Austin/VRH Joint Venture, EWR Tenant Construction
Alteration Process ( TCAP) OTG, Munich Airport,
PANYNJ Certification Team and Unibail-
Rodamco-Westfield. Guest speakers from the Port
Authority, Airport Minority Advisory Council HMS
Host, RCGA Architects, Fraport, Munich Airport
Concessions team, Newburns Management, EJE
Duty Free and Departure Spa spoke about their the
EWR concessions program, experiences, sharing
valuable initial concession information, financial
realities and build-out and competencies necessary
to operate a successful airport concession.
For those interested in digging deeper into
the process it is necessary for these entities to
first become certified as a minority business.
This process requires a list of requirements
which the office of diversity will help those interested.
