As of Tuesday, April 28, the
Port Authority of New York and
New Jersey will began restricting
terminal access at John F.
Kennedy, Newark Liberty and
LaGuardia airports to ticketed
passengers, airport employees,
and those who otherwise demonstrate
a need to enter the facility
for airport business.
Due to COVID-19 related
shifts in flight and passenger activity,
changes in the airports’
operational footprints, security,
cleaning and maintenance protocols,
and social distancing directives,
the Port Authority will
temporarily limit terminal access
at the region’s three major
airports. This policy will remain
in place through the duration of
the emergency orders from New
York and New Jersey. Access to

Port Authority Police Department
Will Assist in Monitoring
Terminal Access
Port Authority Police will be
available to assist in monitoring
access to terminals through
the duration of the emergency
orders. Persons entering a terminal
may be asked to provide
evidence of a reason for entry, including:
A ticket, boarding pass, f light
reservation or comparable item
for a flight departing from that
particular airport;
An airport identification card
(airport employee ID);
Documentation that a person
is a vendor, contractor or otherwise
doing authorized business
within the terminal.

travel with passenger volumes
down over 95% in March
Following 10 years and 2 months
of continuous growth, in March
2020 JFK, Newark Liberty, and La-
Guardia all saw passenger declines
of greater than 50 percent, with the
airport system as a whole down an
estimated 55.8 percent compared
to March 2019. The entire airport
system handled 5.18 million passengers
in March 2020, with signifi
cantly lower passenger totals at
JFK (2.18 million), EWR (1.89 million),
and LaGuardia (1.09 million).
